Pokémon Sun & Moon will feature a more powerful form of Greninja – Ash-Greninja! Introduced in the Pokémon XY anime series, this new form is coming to Pokémon Sun & Moon through a new Ability called Battle Bond! But how does it work? Read on to find out!

Ash-Greninja was first revealed in the Pokémon XY anime series during Ash’s journey across the Kalos region. Throughout the anime, Ash’s Greninja goes through many tough encounters, forging a strong bond with its trainer. With their teamwork and friendship reaching new heights, Ash’s Greninja finally awakened its true powers and became Ash-Greninja. This new form will also be making its way to Pokémon Sun & Moon!
The most distinct feature of Ash-Greninja is the big water veil ‘shuriken’ on its back. Ability-wise, it has superior speed and power. These characteristics will further be displayed in Pokémon Sun & Moon to set Ash-Greninja apart from the regular Greninja. The water veil shuriken on its back may also hint at an awesome new move!
Ash’s Greninja became stronger through the strength of their friendship. In Pokémon Sun & Moon, you can transform your Greninja to Ash-Greninja using the Ability Battle Bond! Prior to Sun & Moon, Greninja only had the Torrent and Protean Abilities, the latter being a Hidden Ability. Will Sun & Moon’s Ash-Greninja really be that much different from its previous form because of this?
How does Battle Bond work?
Battle Bond is Greninja’s new Ability to be introduced in Generation VII. Whenever your Greninja knocks-out an opponent, it will transform into Ash-Greninja. Once in this form, Ash-Greninja’s Water Shuriken move will become more powerful.
There may also be other Pokémon in Sun & Moon that have such an Ability. Be sure to keep an eye out for more info in this website!
Ash-Greninja’s Base Stats
Here’s what’s been revealed so far on the playable demo of Pokémon Sun & Moon:

Transforming Greninja into Ash-Greninja nets you a base stat total of 640. That’s an increase of 110 base stat values from 530!
While it doesn’t look like Ash-Greninja will have a second Ability (and it already has Battle Bond as its first one), it still has one of the most impressive base stats of any Pokémon to date. It’s definitely one with a lot of potential.
How to get Ash-Greninja
Players who downloaded the Pokémon Sun & Moon trial version released on October 18, 2016 can get an Ash-Greninja by completing the playable demo. You can then transfer your Ash-Greninja into your main game once it comes out on November 18, 2016. Hope you didn’t miss out!
