Starter Pokemon

Starters are always the pal that stick with you no matter what. And true to tradition, they have the Grass-Type Rowlet, the Fire-type Litten, and the Water-Type Popplio. But which pokemon will you choose? The starter you choose will be with you throughout your entire story in the Alola Region.

Grass Type: Rowlet, Dartrix, Decidueye

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CuuyLi2XYAEXL4g.png

Rowlet

Rowlet, a Grass Quill type Pokémon, flies fast and attacks without a sound. Because it can silently move around, it can jump an opponent and attack it with its powerful kicks and razor sharp leaves. One of its main moves is Leafage and lets it attack its opponents with its razor sharp leaves. Its innate ability is Overgrowth.

Dartrix

The second evolution of Rowlet, Dartrix is a Grass/Flying type. Dartrix is extremely sensitive to other presences within the area. Because of its keen senses, it can detect opponents behind it and strike them without looking. Dartrix hides sharp-bladed feathers under its wing and can bend its feathers to change its trajectory.

Decidueye

The third and final evolution of Rowlet, the Arrow Quill-type Decidueye. While Dartrix is Grass and Flying, Decidueye is now a Ghost/Grass type. This Pokémon can move without anyone detecting it. Once it sees the opponent has lost its trail, it’ll strike with a flurry of arrows. While Decidueye is normally calm and collected, it can get flustered from a surprise attack.

Fire Type: Litten, Torracat, Incineroar

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CuuyLi2XYAEXL4g.png

Litten

Litten is the logical but passionate fire-type starter pokemon. Because its fur is rich in oils and is known to be extremely flammable, Litten licks its fur and uses it as fuel for its fireballs. When its annoyed by its old fur, Litten burns up into a large fire to replace it with new fur. Its main attack is Ember.

Torracat

Torracat has a bell on its neck that serves as its flame sac – the very thing that helps it spit fire. Due to it being more expressive than its predecessor, Torracat requires an outlet for its emotions to go through. When emotional, its bell rings with a high pitch and takes in all of the feelings before unleashing a roaring fire. Because it also has a love for fighting, it will attack relentlessly until its opponents lose its will to fight.

Incineroar

The final evolution of Litten and a fire/dark type, Incineroar has an increased fighting spirit with fires bursting from its navel and waistline. The flames around its waist form a “championship belt” around it and burns brighter the more hyped it gets.  When it gets into the heat of battle, Incineroar attacks relentlessly. Because of its ferocity, Incinceroar not only attacks the pokemon but also its trainer. Its strongest move is the Darkest Lariat.

Water Type: Popplio, Brionne, Primarina

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CuuyLi2XYAEXL4g.png

Popplio

Popplio, a sea-lion Water-type pokemon, performs its acrobatic stunts by using water balloons. This sea-lion snorts out water balloons which its plays, spins, and charms its opponents with. Popplio is known to be hardworking and often times, could be found practicing its tricks with the water balloon. Because of its frivolous nature, Popplio can sometimes get a bit carried away in battle. Its signature technique is Water Gun and powers up with its Torrent ability.

Brionne

From Popplio the Sea-Lion, it evolves into Brionne the Pop-Star type Pokémon. Brionne fights via dance. It memorizes the dances in its colony. But it can memorize the dances of humans as well. Due to being known for being a cheerful pokemon, Brionne will not show any hints of sadness even when sad. The only time and the only person a Brionne reveals its sadness to is to a trainer it completely trusts.

Primarina

While dancing, Water/Fairy type Primarina calls a group of water balloons to surround itself. This pokemon uses different songs to make the balloons attack in a variety of dazzling patterns. Because it relies on its voice, any injury to its throat is considered grave. One of its favourite moves is the Sparkling Aria. When using it, Primarina can cure Burn from its allies.

Legendary and Mythical Pokemon: Solgaleo, Magearna, Zygarde, and Lunala

These legendaries are the souls and spirits of Alola’s stories. Because of their power, people revere them as legendaries and mythical beasts that only exist in their stories.

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Solgaleo

Revered as the emissary of the sun, this legendary is also known as the “beast that devours the sun”. It’s body contains a vast amount of energy and shines bright when active. When filled with the sun’s energy, its mane glows and shines like the sun. Its ability is Full Metal Body and has its signature attack: Sunsteel Strike which ignores the target’s ability and deals damage.

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Lunala

Known as the Emissary of the Moon, people revere it as “the beast the calls the moon”. This legendary absorbs the light and converts it into energy. Its signature move is Moongeist Beam, a ray of light deals damage regardless of ability. But what makes it a force to reckon with is its Shadow Shield. If at full HP, any incoming attack will lose damage.

Zygarde (Complete Form)

 zygarde
 http://www.serebii.net/complete.jpg

While being able to change form, Zygarde still remains as a Ground-Dragon type pokemon. Its body is made up of many different cells. Because these cells have no mind of its own, it obeys the will of Zygarde’s core which controls what form they should take. In addition to its multiple forms, Zygarde has a variety of attacks that can take control of the battle.

Magearna

magearna
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

500 years ago, people created this mythical pokemon. Because she is man-made, its metal body has markings that say its “made by humans”. Magearna, a Steel-Fairy type, is kind to humans and pokemon. It has the ability of Soul Heart – any pokemon that is knocked out on the field boosts its Sp. Atk up one rank.

How to get the Pokémon Magearna:

  1. Get the special Gale Disc for Maegerna which comes from a present after watching the movie “Pokemon XY & Z: Volcanion and the Ingenious Maegerna”.
  1. The disc is for the arcade game Pokémon Ga-Ole and contains a QR code
  1. Scan the QR code and Maegerna is yours!

Note: The special Gale Disc is limited only to 3 million people.

Note: You can get Magearna after the game starts

Guardians of Alola: Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini

Tapu Koko

Tapu Koko is the guardian spirit of Memele Island. Because this electric-fairy Pokémon can be fickle, it may sometimes not aid you in battle at all. However, it does get curious at times and jumps into the battle to play or fight.

Tapu Koko stores electricity in its shells and encases itself inside it. It seems to have an important purpose for doing so.

Tapu Lele

Tapu Lele is the guardian spirit of Akala island. Tapu-Lele sprinkled its scales on tired warriors to end the war in the islands of Alola. But the scales can be dangerous. Human and pokemon bodies alike cannot take too many scales at once. While it could be considered innocent and kind, it can also have a cruel nature. It scatters scales everywhere on everything just for fun.

Tapu Lele has the special ability Psychic Surge. Any terrain turns into a Psychic terrain and boosts any psychic moves of pokemon on the ground. Priority moves don’t work against the pokemon in the Psychic field.

Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu is the Grass/Fairy type guardian of Ula’ula Island. It can control any kind of plants and uses that power also on its wooden horns. The guardian doesn’t like fighting despite its power. As much as possible, it stays away from others to avoid starting a fight. It rings the bell on its tail to warn any nearby pokemon that it’s coming. Yet, if the guardian is forced to fight, Tapu-Bulu is said to swing tree trunks to knock down its enemies.

Tapu Bulu’s ability is Grassy Surge. This boosts Grass-type moves and changes the field into Grassy Terrain. Grassy Terrain restores the HP of allied Pokemon and halves the damage of Earthquake, Magnitude, and Bulldoze.

Tapu Fini

Tapu Fini is the guardian of Poni Island. This Pokémon has a special water that purifies both mind and soul. However, the only way to get it is to get through the fog. While many have good reasons, some others have evil purposes for it. Since then, Tapu Fini doesn’t show itself often to the people of Poni Island. This guardian also doesn’t like getting hurt. Rather, it creates a thick fog to make enemies to fight amongst themselves.

Tapu-Fini has Misty Surge, a new ability. This ability converts the terrain into a Misty Terrain and halves the damage from Dragon-type move. It also prevents status conditions and confusion.

Other new Pokémon in Sun and Moon

Pikipek

pikipek

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Pikipek can pecks 16 times a second with its beak. Because of its speed, it’s known not only to break through wood. But, it can also shatter stone with its beak. The noises it makes can be a warning or a greeting to its allies.  Trainers who have a Pikipek can recognize their pecks and calls.

Yungoos & Gumshoos

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Yungoos

Yungoos are always found eating. Because their long body takes up most of the food and fast digestion, they are always hungry. They have strong fangs that can crush even the hardest of objects. Since they are always hunting, each Yungoo has its own hunting pathway to find its prey. Yungoos also come with two different abilities: Stakeout or Strong Jaw.

Gumshoos

Unlike the Yungoos, Gumshoos use a completely opposite tactic. While Yungoos like to prowl around, Gumshoos stake out and camp where their prey usually passes. It patiently stays there, waiting for its prey to show up. This works for them because of their tenacious personality which also explains why they can focus on a single target.

Grubbin, Charjabug, Vikavolt

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Grubbin

Because it feeds on electricity, Grubbin normally stay at power plants and substations. They rely on their strong, sturdy jaw to burrow through the earth and to fight.

Charjabug

Charjabug stays completely still, waiting until it evolves. Because it’s can be preyed on, Charjabug leaves its body buried half-way through the ground. While waiting, it stores enough electricity that can power up a house. The electricity inside it can also help other pokemon.

Vikavolt

Like a fortress zooming around the forest, Vikavolt fires bolts of electricity from its mouth. Because of its large jaws, Vikavolt can fire beams of electricity accurately. It can also perform a wide range of acrobatic stunts. With its sharp wings, it can control and weave its way through a dense forest. Vikavolt can partner up with a Charjabug to increase its power.

Drampa

drampa

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Drampas are dragons that live on the mountain alone for 10,000 years. Because they live alone, Drampa love communicating with people and pokemon. They also eat a certain kind of berries which cannot be found on the mountains. Since they can’t find it up there, they then go down the mountain to find it. They have two abilities: either Berserk (Increases Special Attack when Hit Points reach 50%) or Sap Sipper (Attack rises when hit by Grass-Type move)

Bruxish

bruxish
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Bruxish taps into its psychic powers, using the bulb sticking out of its head. All enemies end up with a terrible headache as a result of its power. As it emits its psychic power, it grinds its teeth. Because of the kind of power it has, any Pokemon that hears it grinding its teeth flee immediately. Also, due to its Dazzling ability, any priority attack misses.

Cutiefly & Ribombee

 http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Cutiefly

Cutiefly detects the aura in people, animals, pokemon, and plants. They also search for flowers and plants via bright colours and smell. When living beings are excited, the colour of their auras look like flowers in full bloom. Because of this, Cutiefly gather near people who are particularly happy or sad. While Cutiefly often live in meadows, they also live in communities because of their attraction towards emotions.

Ribombee

The evolved form of Cutiefly, Ribombee use the pollen gathered to create Pollen Puffs. While Pollen Puffs are food for them, these things can also cause dizziness and paralysis. Because of their effects, Ribombees rely on Pollen Puffs for their attacks. It has two abilities: Honey Gather or Shield Dust.

Togedemaru

togedemaru
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Togedemaru is the roly-poly pokemon that picks up electricity and stores it in its body. To absorb more electricity, Togedemaru has a lightning rod sticking out of its back to attract electricity. As a result, it can use the electricity and release shocking attacks. These pokemon have other means of attacking such as the needles that cover up their body. All they have to do is roll up and presto – a ball of needles. Because of their ability to convert electricity into their own energy, trainers have other pokemon attack Togedemaru to charge up its power and make it unleash a powerful counter-attack. Its current abilities are either Iron Barbs or Lightning Rod.

Rockruff & Lycanroc

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Rockruff

With Keen-eye or Vital Spirit, Rockruff could be essential to the team. They are friendly creatures but become a little more rough when they mature. Because of their nearing evolutions, Rockruffs sometimes separate from their trainers to complete their evolutions. When their evolutions is complete, they return back to their trainers.

Lycanroc

When bathed in solar energies, Rockruff turns into Lycanroc. In Pokemon Sun, Solgaleo’s powers were said to influence Rockruff’s evolution. These pokemon prefer living alone, either in the deserts or the mountains. But if there is a trainer that gained its loyalty prior to the evolution then, the Lycanroc will never abandon you. The midday Lycanroc focus on speed. They use the speed to outrun their opponents and take them down quickly. In Midnight form, they are known to be more ferocious and bait their opponent. Once their opponent falls into the trap, they lash out and defeat their opponent in a single blow.

Lycanroc in its midnight form also knows Counter. This move allows them to return an attack with twice damage.

Komala

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Komala is always sleeping. Nobody has ever seen it awake. Because it’s constantly sleeping, it also drools and its saliva can be used as medicine. When the log in its arms is taken, it wakes up and thrashes about wildly. Apparently, it also clings onto the arm of its trainer too.

Salandit

salandit
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

From the base of its tail, Salandit releases flames and toxic gases. But unlike most toxic gases, this one has a sweet smell. Because of the gas’ sweet smell, many people unknowingly inhale it and become dizzy. Salandits are not powerful but, they are cunning. They use a variety of tactics to throw their opponent off balance. Female Salandits also release pheromones asides from the toxic gases. As a result, anyone who inhales the toxic gas becomes a slave to the female Salandit’s will.

Wimpod

wimpod
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Because they are easily spooked, Wimpods are wary of noises and sudden movements. If you try to approach one, they’ll immediately run away in fear. Despite their cowardly nature, curiosity can get a Wimpod to come close to you. Wimpod’s also have the ability of Wimp Out. When their HP is 50% and below, the Wimpod will run away or swap out with another pokemon.

Bounsweet, Steenee, and Tsareena

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Bounsweet

Because of its delicious smell, Bounsweet is popular in the Alola Region. Also, due to their relaxing smell, many people of Alola keep Bounsweets in their homes as a form of air freshener. But having a delicious smell is what gets a Bounsweet swallowed whole. Because of its bouncy movements, nobody thinks that Bounsweet could possibly be in danger.

Steenee

Because of its harder head, Steenee doesn’t need to worry about being stabbed by other Pokemon. While it was a Bounsweet, it had no choice but to run away. Evolving into a Steenee, it now can play with other Pokemon. It has a mix of a sweet smell but a tomboyish personality. This pokemon doesn’t usually care if it kicks down or breaks something. When threatened, Steenee hits the opponent with its hard stem and then kicks them.

Tsareena

With an air of nobility, the Tsareena will punish any pokemon or human that dares approach it with an evil mind. Because of the sudden increase in strength, only the strongest of Steenee evolve into a Tsareena. When evolved, it protects the other Bounsweet from being preyed on. Any attack this pokemon executes adds a form of grace and elegance unlike its former form.

Comfey

comfey
http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Comfey always picks flowers and forms a wreathe. When it slathers its oil onto the flowers, the fragrance on the flowers change into a sweeter scent. Because of its sweet scent, Comfeys help out in Pokemon Centres to soothe the wounded. When threatened, it throws it lei of flowers to either strike back or to flee. Its two abilities are either Flower Veil (prevents lowering an ally Grass-type pokemon’s stats) or Triage (restorative powers take priority).

Mudsbray & Mudsdale

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Mudbray

Because it was hunted to extinction, Mudbray can only be found in the Alola Region. Despite its small body, this pokemon boasts of superhuman strength. It’s capable of carrying something that is 50 times its on weight – whether it’s dragging the item or hauling it along on its back.

Mudsdale

The evolution of Mudbray, Mudsdale is known for its strength and emotional fortitude. Because it’s rarely spooked, it shows no signs of agitation and can easily kick down its opponents with one blow. The mud on its legs is what reinforces its kicks. The more mud there is, the more damage it inflicts per kick.

Stufful & Bewear

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Stufful

Because of its cute appearance, many people tend to underestimate this pokemon. The fluffy feel of its fear, its cute appearance, and its sweet demeanour can disarm even the toughest Pokemons and trainer. But approaching this pokemon unprepared will have your pokemon knocked out before you even notice.

Bewear

When you see Bewear waving its arms with a friendly smile, approach this pokemon with caution. This pokemon is known to be a danger in the Alola region. Because of their tremendous strength and lack of control, Bewears are an intimidating force.

Mimikkyu

A ghost-type pokemon that wanders around Alola Region. Due to its health failing under sunlight, it keeps its body completely hidden in cloth and lives in the dark. It was said that anyone who looked under theits cloth would be struck with disease. But in reality, this pokemon is rather lonely. The reason it wears a Pikachu-shape cloth is to attract trainers in hopes of having one look at them due to the rising popularity of Pikachu.

Oricorio

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Because they sip different flowers, Oricorio has different forms. Since there are four forms – the same number as the Alola islands, it can be assumed that different kinds of Oricorio live around the Region. The Baile style favours intense, fiery attacks. While the Pom-Pom form cheers up trainers when they’re down and attacks with lightning, the Pa’u Pokemon acts on its own accord using its Psychic moves. The Sensu Style, on the other hand, is a calm and collected form of Oricorio.

Fomantis & Lurantis

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Fomantis

Fomantis is a nocturnal pokemon. During the day, it buries itself underground and spreads its leaves to absorb sunlight. Because it knows the danger of staying in one place for too long, Fomantis immediately move on the second day when the sun sets. Light is important for Fomantis not only as food but, as energy for it to evolve into its vibrant form.

Lurantis

Due to its brilliant colours and graceful moves, Lurantis is said to be one of the most beautiful pokemon. When being threatened, Lurantis waits and baits its opponents. The moment the opponent gets close, that is when Lurantis strikes them down. Its special ability is Leaf Guard (prevents status conditions during Sunny Weather).

 Minior

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

This pokemon comes from the stratosphere. Once it absorbs enough debris, it hurtles down to the earth. Because of the debris and dirt it picked up from outside, Minior’s armour is heavy and loaded with particles. Each Minior comes in a different colour and you can only find that out when its shell breaks. Its special ability is Shields Down (Protects from status conditions and has high Defense until it hits 50% where it causes the Pokémon to change form).

Morelull

morelull

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Morelull are nocturnal Pokemon that walk around using their leg-like roots. They are forced to move around due to their surroundings dying out after they drain all the energy they can get from the soil. When it’s in danger, Morelull burst out with spores to call out its fellow Morelull.

Wishiwashi

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Since they’re so small, bigger pokemon threaten Wishiwashi. But when they send out an SOS signal to their allies, all the tiny Wishiwashi band up together to form the School Form of Wishiwashi. A form so terrifying that even Gyarados backs off!

Pyukumuku

pyukumuku

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Due to its lifestyle and appearance, many people find it unappealing. Pyukumuku, no matter how far they’ve thrown, will always come back to the same spot. Even if you pitch them back, they’ll come back. They become so attached to their spot that if they run out of food, they just sit there and starve. Moved with pity, the people of Alola have a tradition of finding the skinny Pyukumuku and hurling them back into the sea.

Sandygast &Palossand

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Sandygast

Sandygast absorbs the grudges of fallen Pokemon from battle. If you think about it, it’s a possessed lump of sand out to get you. Also, if you grab the shovel of the Sandygast, you’ll immediately fall under its control. These pokemon lure children to fill them with more sand to increase their size. In Alola, they are seen as a test of courage. People often times are dared to stick their hand inside a Sandygast’s mouth to prove their courage.

Palossand

Unlike Sandygast, the Palossand controls adults and when it loses sand, it can regenerate it back. The Palossand has increased defensive abilities. To do this, it mind-controls adults to turn its body into a fort. Palossand loves the vitality of small Pokemon. It devours them and sucks up all their vitality. Because of this, some people believe that’s how Sandygasts came to be.

Turtonator

turtonator

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Because it lives in a volcano and feeds on mostly sulfur, the Turtonator’s shell is extremely explosive. When something strikes this pokemon, sparks fly from its horn to its shell. The sparks then land on the barbs on the shell and set off a large explosion. To take down something like this, strike its stomach.

Crabrawler

crabrawler

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Crabrawler has a personality that hates losing and will do anything to get up higher – figuratively and literally! As a result, these pokemon are normally clinging onto tall people or tall structures. If you try to take one off, Crabrawlers will not hesitate to punch you. Hard.

Type: Null & Silvally

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Type: Null

Null means “nothing”. Its strange form is due to it being synthesize the strength of different kinds of Pokemon. Because of its insane agility, Type: Null was fitted on with a heavy helmet. Only Pokemons from legend were capable of breaking the helmet on its head. Because of its Battle Armour ability, any critical hits landed are rendered useless.

Silvally

When Type:Null finds a trust-worthy partner, it shatters its helmet and evolves into Silvally. This pokemon now uses its heightened agility and senses to fight. Because of removing the helmet, it returns its natural wild temperament. However, this will immediately change when it finds a trainer to trust. Like Arceus, Silvally’s RKS System ability allows it to change its type depending on the item.

Jangmo-O, Hakamo-O, and Kommo-O

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Jangmo-O

Jangmo-O have the pride of a warrior and constantly subject themselves to training. These pokemon live in canyons with other Jangmo-O to train. Because of its hard scales on its head and body, this Pokemon never runs away from battle. Many people witness its harsh training regimen and due to this, trainers admire its valiant personality.

Hakamo-O

When the Jangmo-O evolves into a Hakamo-O, it breaks from the colony to train by itself. It travels around and challenges other pokemon to a fierce battle. Before it fights, the Hakamo-O breaks out into an elaborate dance. When it’s about to finish the dance, Hakamo-O bellows a battle cry and engages the pokemon into a battle. Even if the pokemon strikes against it, the Hakamo-O doesn’t seem to mind due to its scales being hard. Since they grow back, the Hakamo-O doesn’t mind losing a few.  In fact, this pokemon takes pride in losing its scales as a mark of its ferocious fight.

Kommo-O

After subjecting itself to harsh training, the Kommo-O returns to where it came from to watch over the fledgling Jangmo-O. It shows no desire to challenge weak Pokemon. Legend has it, that the scales covering the Kommo-O are what drive away the darkness. When someone is approaching, the Kommo-O rings its scales to announce its presence.

Passimian & Oranguru

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Passimian

Because they live in a group of 20-30, they all follow a leader. They are intelligent enough to assign a leader and follow him too. This particular leader is the one who calls the shots such as assigning the ten strongest Passimian to find food and also assigning leaders to a battalion. Because of their battalion system, the Passimian troop leaders form groups to either find food or hunt. Each of the troop leaders decide what mark for their members to wear in order to distinguish them. Passimians use berries as a form of attack.

Oranguru

Orangurus live in the forest. Since they prefer a solitary lifestyle, they often stay high up in the trees to meditate. These pokemon are not territorial and even care for the other pokemon in the forest. They bring them food and medicine to those that are injured within the forest. When humans first spotted them, they believed that Oranguru were people of the forest.

Cosmog

cosmog

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/pokemon.shtml

Because its so rare, only a few people know of Cosmog’s existence. At one point, kings and queens of Alola believed that this pokemon was a “child of the stars”. It was only recent that the Aether Foundation found this pokemon and named it Cosmog. This pokemon can be curious and can sometimes put itself in danger because of this.

Alola Forms

In Pokemon Sun and Moon, it’s not all just about new Pokemon. Because of the emergence of the new legendary pokemon, even the old pokemon have new forms: the Alola Forms. These Alola forms give them new elements and more attacks to take down a variety of opponents.

Alolan Exeggutor

 alolan-exeggutor

Because of the bright sunlight, Exeggutor abled itself to stretch out its neck to reach out for more energy. Since its new evolution, Exeggutor now has a fourth head unlike the conventional kind. Its fourth head has eyes and is attached to its tail, allowing it to check for enemies behind it.

Alola Vulpix & Alola Ninetales

Alolan Vulpix

Because it had to live in the snowy mountains to avoid other pokemon, Vulpix’s new form is now an ice type. While formerly a fire type, Vulpix learned to adjust in the snowy mountains. Since then, it has learned how to cooperate with its peers in order to survive the harsh winters.

Alolan Ninetales

Alolan Ninetales live on snowy peaks which people refer to as a sacred mountain. Because of its majestic and beautiful appearance, many people revere Ninetales’ in her Alola form as the “Messenger of God”. Although it was considered a vengeful Pokemon before, the Alolan Ninetales is a gentle creature. At times, it even helps people who are lost in the mountains find their way. However, they still unleash their wrath on those who destroy their homes. Because it doesn’t use fire, Ninetales since then fights with ice to attack. Each of her tails shoot out a barb of ice that’s capable of even breaking the toughest rocks.

Alola Sandshrew & Alola Sandslash

Alola Sandshrew

Since the erruption, Sandshrew was forced to move away from the dessert. Unlike the times it would burrow into sand, it burrows into ice. As a result, Sandshrew now is half Ice-Type. Its body is covered with ice and is harder than the usual sandshrew. Because of its icy body, it can now ice skate and move around smoothly on ice.

Alola Sandslash

While hiding in the snow, the Alola Sandslash leaves its icy barbs sticking out from the ground. This prevents any predators from hunting it down while in the snow. Because of its beauty, anyone who spots an Alola Sandslash is in for a real treat.

Raichu

alolan-raichu

Before Pokemon Sun and Moon, Raichu was just an electric Pokemon. But the moment it step foot into the Alola region, meet the new and improved Raichu. The Alola Raichu is a Psychic/Electric pokemon. Ever since it became a psychic type, Raichus now have the ability to put Psychic power into their tails that allow them to fly. Scientists are baffled due to the sudden increase in power but, the people of Alola don’t seem to mind. Nevertheless, scientists came up with a theory that the reason for Raichu’s ability to fly is due to the sweet food and fluffy pancakes it kept on eating.

Alolan Meowth & Alolan Persian

Alolan Meowth

From a normal type, Meowth becomes a Dark type. In reality, Meowth never came from the Alola region. They were served as an offering to the royal lines and only few could have Meowths as a pet. Because of this, may of those who had Meowths pampered and spoiled them. Hence, these pokemon turned into selfish and prideful pokemon. If there’s anything this pokemon hates, it’s having a wound on their pride and dirt on their coins. Once they see it, they go nuts. Ever since the collapse of the royal family, Alolan Meowths roam around the Alola Region as feral pokemon.

Alolan Persian

The round face of the Alolan Persian symbolized the rich, royal Alolan families of long ago. Because its basic form was considered to be a symbol of status, having an Alolan Persian was even more so and held with great beauty. They were deemed so important that whenever someone wanted to bring out one, they had to be checked and scanned thoroughly. Persians are highly intelligent but, could be seen as arrogant. In fact, they look down on almost everything save for itself. Because of their selfish nature,  Alolan Persians don’t attach to their trainers easily and thus, be quite a fuss to have for a partner in battle. While they can appear refined and pampered, they don’t hesitate to use underhanded tactics to win.

No longer just a Ghost type, the Alolan Marowak now is a Ghost/Fire type. It picks up a bone and lights both ends before spinning it around to make a blue flame. Because Marowak is rare, many people liken its appearance to that of a conjurer. And one look at it, have people fleeing in fear. Because of the many Grass-types, Marowaks and Cubones stick to their partners. Due to their love for their partners, Marowaks gained a 6th sense and new abilities. New abilities such as fireballs are important for the Alolan Marowak.

Alolan Rattata

Alolan Rattata live in urban regions. Unlike normal Rattatas, they have a better sense of smell. They use their sense of smell to track all the good food all around Alola. Because they are nocturnal, they are awake at night and stay in nests with several dozens. While they search for food, each of them answers to a Raticate as their boss.

Alolan Raticate

Since they live in urban areas, Alolan Raticates eat more than they usually do. Thus, they have become hefty in Alola. Alolan Raticates eat only fresh fruits and fancy ingredients. Rumour has it that top-notch restaurants bring along one of them and have them taste test the ingredients and the dishes. It lives in a nest with others but often times, sends out Rattatas to do the work while it stays home and eats.

Alolan Grimer & Alolan Muk

Alolan Grimer

When Alola grew big, garbage became a problem. To solve this problem, the people brought in Grimer from the other regions. Since Grimers ate garbage, their composition began to change. The linings on their mouth are not teeth but crystals from the garbage. However, touching one of those crystals is a big no-no. Since then, garbage factories in Alola house hundreds of Grimer and bring them trash to feed on.

Alolan Muk

Whenever something is within Alolan Muk’s reach, it will eat it. This pokemon has a voracious hunger and eats everything in sight. Since they cannot survive without a constant mix of toxins, Alolan Muks eat anything within its sight. Toxins coming from places such as various waste materials and manufactured products fuel the hungry pokemon. Unlike the Alolan Grimer, the crystals cover Alolan Muk’s entire body. And when it fights, these crystals come off and are extremely dangerous. Unlike the usual Grimer and Muk, they produce and store toxins in their own bodies. Thus, they don’t emit a foul smell wherever they go.

Aloan Diglett & Alolan Dugtrio

Alolan Diglett

Because they live near volcanoes, Alolan Digletts don’t have much space to hide. When they burrow, they create troughs and rows of soil that are great for agriculture. Because of this, many of the people of Alola are grateful for them. Ever since their arrival, Alola Diglett grew metal whiskers. These metal whiskers provide a sensory function without them having to go above ground. While they are for sensory purposes, people can tell their feelings depending on the way it moves. When the whiskers stand straight up, they’re angry. When its whiskers wave, they’re vigilant. If their whiskers are swinging around then, they are happy. But if their whiskers are down, they are downhearted and sad.

Alolan Dugtrio

Because of their sensory skills, Alolan Dugtrios are believed to be the reincarnated god of the land. Ever since then, they are revered with great importance. Whenever someone from Alola comes across them, they immediately fall to their knees and bow to the Dugtrio that poked its head out of the burrow. When the Alolan Digletts evolve, their tiny whiskers turn into long inflexible blonde hair. They continue to grow throughout their lives but slowly. However, anyone who dares steal a whisker from a Dugtrio is bound to meet divine punishment. Apparently, every year – tourists come back to return the whiskers they’ve taken.

But there is also a superstitious belief that Dugtrios only come out when a volcano is about to errupt. Because of that, many of the elders who see a Dugtrio flee immediately on sight. Since it’s uncommon for Dugtrio to rise above ground, people believe that these pokemon only come up when they detect movements that spell an impending eruption. Because of this, they are so alarmed that they pop out of the ground.

So,that’s it for the Alolan forms and the new Pokemon. Don’t forget – Pokemon Sun and Moon will be coming out this November 18, 2016!
