Odyssey on the Nintendo Wii U?
Many people have been asking whether or not Super Mario Odyssey will work on the Nintendo Wii U. Nintendo says that it is releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, but many gamers who are new to Nintendo games are still curious if it is compatible for the Wii U.

The answer to that question is fairly simple: No, Super Mario Odyssey cannot be played on the Wii U. Why? Well, there are a few reasons as to why the game is not playable on the console.
CD ≠ Cartridge
In its physical form, Wii U games always run on CDs. However, Nintendo Switch games run on cartridges. Now many argue that Super Mario Odyssey is downloadable digitally through the Nintendo eShop. But the thing is, Odyssey doesn’t even show up on the Wii U eShop application.
Higher Graphical Requirements
There is a report by Digital Foundry stating that Super Mario Odyssey runs at 900p Docked and 720p Portable. While docked, the game ran at 900p (1600×900) which is a solid performance for the Switch. This performance also benefited from the fact that the game is inside a cartridge, which reportedly runs faster than a CD.
The Nintendo Wii U cannot run a game this demanding in graphical capabilities. In fact, Super Mario Odyssey might be the most graphically and technically demanding Super Mario game in the series. So playing Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Wii U is really impossible.
Nintendo Switching to Switch
Nintendo already is deciding long-term plans for the Nintendo Switch, and making a big budget game for the Wii U is considered suicide now giving the fact that the said console failed to gain popularity. With the rise of the Nintendo Switch, it is highly unlikely that we will be seeing a AAA title for the Wii U.
