  • King’s Shield is a +4 Priority Status Move and can be used before any other move.
  • It will block any offensive used against the user for one turn.
  • If opponent tries to attack this Pokemon after it had used King’s Shield during that same turn, the opponent’s Attack stat will decrease by 2-stages.

King’s Shield is the signature Move of Aegislash which allows it to switch from Blade Form to Shield Form.

Not only will Shield Form block it from incoming offensive Moves during the turn the move was used, but it would also change its Base Stats to shield itself from moves that would normally knock it out on the next turn.

Changes on the move’s Mechanics

Given Aegislash’s typing which is Steel/ Ghost-Type, it resists Normal/Fighting/Poison-Types thus making these moves unable to trigger the effect of King’s Shield. Therefore, Pokemon that use those types would not receive a 2-stage Attack stat decrease.

With the advent of Pokemon Sun and Moon, even if you attack Aegislash with a Normal/ Fighting/ Poison-Type move, it will trigger King’s Shield and lower the opponent’s Attack by 2 stages.

Aegislash had already garnered a high usage rating during Wi-Fi battlespot Rating matches. With the inclusion of this buff, it is expected that battles that would allow the use of National Dex Pokemon would provide a further increase in its usage.
