Using Leafeon
Leafeon has a high base Attack stat which is complemented by remarkable speed.
Its downside however is its minimal HP. Therefore it is advised to accompany one of its strong points by investing on HP and/ or Defense to survive against certain moves.
Similarly, its limited movepool limits it to depend on buffing moves such as Swords Dance and supportive moves such as Baton Pass to pass boosts if there’s a disadvantageous matchup. This tandem is effective when used in conjunction with Yawn. This should not only support itself but also an ally especially when the sun is out as it triggers its Chlorophyll ability, doubling its speed stat.

Fitting Leafeon on your team
■ Basic attacker set
Ability | Chlorophyll |
Nature | Adamant or Jolly |
Effort Values | 252 Attack / Speed and the rest on HP |
Held Item | Life Orb/Expert Belt/(Charti,Occa,Yache,etc.)Berries |
Recommended Moves | Leaf Blade/Return or Double-Edge |
- Leafeon functions as a dedicated Physical attacker that has its Speed doubled when the weather is Sunny.
- It may opt to use Natural Gift with a Charti Berry to deal a base power 80 Rock-Type damage which will deal powerful damage against Mega Charizard Y, Talonflame, etc.
- Similarly, another recommended berry is Yache Berry as it halves the damage taken from an opponent, and if used with Natural Gift will deal base power 80 Ice-Type damage instead.
- Occa Berry which will also be boosted when the sun is out is also a recommended option when Natural Gift is desired.
■ Physical endurance set
Ability | Chlorophyll |
Nature | Impish |
Effort Values | 252 HP/ Speed and the rest on Defense |
Held Item | Rocky Helmet/Leftovers/Sitrus Berry |
Recommended Moves | Leaf Blade/Synthesis |
- In addition, a Physically defensive set is viable with Non-Damaging Moves such as Yawn to force a switch and follow it up with Swords Dance, Toxic, or Knock Off (Tutor Move).
Countering Leafeon
Although Leafeon has a high base Defense stat, its Sp. Defense is frail which make Sp. Attackers prime choices to effectively shut it down.
If the opponent does not have Swords Dance, its Attack stat won’t deal as much damage, and in addition its narrow movepool makes it easier for other Types to switch-in.
If Yawn or Grass Whistle is troublesome, Lum Berry and Taunt are recommended solutions.
Speed is doubled due to Sun, therefore Pokemon such as Talonflame is viable due to its ability. At full HP, it outruns Leafeon and deals strong STAB damage.
