The game is developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. It is set long before the events of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, including its remake, and other past entries of the Pokémon series.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Game Overview

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was unveiled along with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl last February 26, 2021 during the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event. According to Game Freak, Pokémon Legends: Arceus served as a “premake” to Diamond and Pearl. The game is scheduled to release on January 28, 2022.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Story Overview

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set in the Hisui Region, the former name of the Sinnoh Region long before the events of Diamond Pearl. The player character’s goal is to complete the first Pokédex of the region. The mythical Pokémon Arceus will also play a major role in the story.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Jubilife Village

The player will start his adventure at Jubilife Village which serves as the base of operations for the Galaxy Expedition Team. The Galaxy Team is divided into various corps such as the Medical Corps, Security Corps, and the Survey Corps. The player character will work under the Survey Corps is assigned to research Pokémon through surveying missions and requests. As the player, you must meet every species of Pokémon in every corner of the Hisui region.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Frenzied Pokemon

While accomplishing assignments, the player will encounter new and familiar Pokémon. New regional forms of familiar Pokémon will also be present. You will encounter unique variants called Noble Pokémon that are blessed by a mysterious power and willingly assists the people of Hisui. There are Wardens assigned to protect them and their territory. At certain points of the game, the Noble Pokémon will become frenzied and you need to quell using balms.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Gameplay Features

Pokémon Legends: Arceus shares similar elements from previous Pokémon titles while having its own new and unique gameplay systems as well. Here is a quick summary of the game’s unique gameplay:

Capturing a Wild Pokémon

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Capturing Wild Pokemon

In the overworld, some Pokémon will only appear at certain times of day and certain weathers. When a Pokémon spots your character, some will approach while others will run away.

In this game, there are now two options in capturing a wild Pokémon. You can stealthily get close behind a Pokémon and throw a Poke Ball to get it. The other is to command your very own Pokémon to attack and weaken the Wild Pokémon for a better chance of capturing it.

Battling A Wild Pokémon

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Battling Wild Pokemon Agile and Strong Style

The general battle system is still the same but with additional mechanics. When it comes to attacking order, a Pokémon’s stats influence how many battle actions they can do and in what order. This action order mechanic is similar to Final Fantasy X’s conditional Turn-Based battle system.

In addition, the player has a new way to unleash a chosen Pokémon move during battle. This is in the form of Style Moves. Agile Style focuses on action speed and less power while Stron Style emphasizes on power but less action speed.
