Alternate Form vs Evolution

Alternate forms can be seen as a type of special evolution which only a select few species are able to attain. Many of these new forms are accessible to Legendary Pokemon you encounter much later in the game. Unlike normal evolution, however, alternate forms are likely to be only temporary and will allow the Pokemon to change back to its regular form (to be confirmed).

Form-Changing Items

Throughout the main story, you will acquire a number of items that can only be used on specific Pokemon to change them into their alternate forms. Having these in your satchel gives you an option to change a Pokemon to its new form when it is advantageous to do so against certain enemies in the game.
