How to raise non-HPs stat effectively

Before leveling a Pokémon you captured, determine its Nature and its strongest non-HP stat/s. See if its Nature will boost its strongest stat even more whenever it levels.

For example, if you are attempting to raise a Gyarados that has a high Attack stat, you would prefer to have its Nature as Lonely, Brave, or Adamant. These Natures will boost the Pokémon’s attack additionally by 10% without compromising its other stronger stat which is Special Defense.
