In Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5),  The Los Santos Police Department uses various types of vehicles to pursue criminals on every kind of terrain, may it be land, air or sea. They can be stolen by the player to use as escape vehicles during pursuits, most especially during high wanted levels. Below is a detailed guide on all vehicles employed by law enforcement, as well as some of their unique characteristics and performance in the game.

Vapid Police Cruiser

The Los Santos Police Cruiser is based on the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria. Most Police Cruisers can be seen parked outside police stations and typically used as response vehicles to any disturbance or crime in downtown Los Santos. The car traces its roots back to the original Vapid Stainer, with better performance due to upgrades.

Vapid Police Interceptor

The Vapid Police Interceptor is a standard-issue pursuit sedan based on the Ford Police Interceptor. It is fully-decked with LED-style lightbars, working alley lights, wig-wag tail lights, flashing head lights, grill lights, windshield and back windows lights, as well as push bar lights. It is among the most common response vehicles used by the Los Santos Police Department for any and all car chases around the city, having slightly better top speed than the cruiser.

It has somewhat low durability, and can easily be crumpled if it takes too many crashes. It has also been known to be difficult to control in the air, though its reliability in most situations on the road.

Police Buffalo

The Police Buffalo is a slower but more-durable law enforcement vehicle based on the Dodge Charger. It is rather rare, but can be found patrolling downtown Los Santos occasionally. There are currently two versions of the Police Buffalo in the game.  On the original versions of the game, the vehicle can be seen with a unique livery. The other version has a livery similar to that of the Cruiser and can be found in the enhanced version of the game.

One downside of the vehicle is that its front axle bends more easily compared with other police cars (most notably the Vapid models).

Police Transporter

The Police Transporter traces its design to the second-generation Burrito and is used to transport a group of police personnel to target destinations, as well as to set-up roadblocks for fleeing criminals with a wanted level of 3 stars or more. The Transporter is used to set-up spike strips and patrols certain parts of the city. It is not used for car chases. It is also worth noting that players can obtain an SMG if they enter one in the game.

The Transporter is fitted with bulletproof windshields, making suitable if you have a very high wanted level.

Unmarked Cruiser

Mostly used by detectives under cover, the Unmarked Cruiser is a Los Santos Police Cruiser (as well as being a second-generation Stanier) that aims to appear as an inconspicuous dominantly-black sedan. It is quite uncommon in most parts of the city, though you may spot one in downtown Los Santos once in a while. The Unmarked Cruiser also comes in grey, silver, dark red and dark blue. It has slightly higher top speed compared to its marked counterpart because of its reduced drag.

The player will be able to obtain a Carbine rifle upon entering an Unmarked Cruiser.

Police Maverick

The Police Maverick is based on the American Eurocopter AS350B-2 A-Star. However, the chopper is mostly used by the NOOSE during normal games (it is used by the police in scripted events). You can try making your way to police station rooftops where they are usually parked to steal one. Otherwise, the Maverick is seen patrolling the skies and pursuing criminals around Los Santos. It is usually deployed when chasing a target with 3 or more wanted levels.

Entering a Police Maverick will allow the player to obtain a Sniper Rifle.

Police Predator

The Police Predator is Los Santos pursuit speedboat found patrolling the waters near the beaches of Los Santos. They will spawn even outside wanted status, and will chase criminals with a 1-star wanted level. The Coast Guard who man the Predators are equipped with Micro-SMGs.

Entering a Police Predator will allow the player to obtain a Carbine Rifle.

Police Riot

Appearing only during 4-star wanted levels or higher, the Police Riot are mainly used for cutting off the exits of fleeing criminals by setting up roadblocks. It is the toughest of the road vehicles employed by the Los Santos Police Department, being able to endure most forms of gunfire as well as sticky bombs, molotovs and gasoline (though RPG shots and tank shells can take it out instantly). All windows of the Riot are bulletproof, so it is nearly impossible to kill the drivers and passengers. It is because this that it is among the most sought-after police vehicles to steal if you have a very high wanted level.
