Can You Play as FeMC in Persona 3 Reload (P3RE)?

Confirmed to be unplayable.

Persona 3 Reload (P3RE) will not include the female protagonist (known as Shiomi Kotone or more popularly “FeMC”) as a playable character in the game. This was confirmed in an interview with Ryota Niitsuma and Kazuhiro Wada, the 2024 version’s producer and chief director respectively.

The game’s developers have also stated that Persona 3 Reload was intended to recreate the experience of “Persona 3” which means that other content from updated ports like Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable will not be included in the highly-anticipated remake.

May be added in the future via DLCs or updated versions of the game (to be confirmed).

Despite this decision by the game’s developers, FeMC may still be added in the remake eventually through DLCs or the release of an expanded version of the title. More information on this will be published when they are confirmed from official announcements.

Gameplay Differences Based on Protagonist in Previous Persona 3 Games

Below are gameplay features found in the expanded versions of Persona 3 that change based on the main character’s gender you select at the start of the game.

Note that the elements and content below have been excluded in Persona 3 Reload as per the interview described above.

Usable Weapons and Armor

The equipment available to the male and female protagonist is not the same. This is shown by the male protagonist being able to wield one-handed swords and armor exclusive to men. The female protagonist, meanwhile, can equip naginata-type armaments and put on defensive gear specific to women.

Social Links and Events

Certain Social Link characters, dialogue options, and events only appear when playing as a specific version of the main character. In general, it is more difficult for the female protagonist to maximize all Social Links than it is the male protagonist because of this differences.

Theodore (Velvet Room)

The Velvet Room attendant Theodore, the male counterpart to Elizabeth, only appears if you have chosen the female protagonist. Theodore does not become available at any point during the main story if you picked the male protagonist.

Other Changes

While not heavily affecting the story and accessible features, elements such as the school trip event, your class assignment, and the fate of a certain character all depend on your chosen protagonist at the start of the game.
