The best time to farm gems in Tartarus is on dates when the area is in unstable conditions. Accidents are likely to occur as you move between the floor on such days which may increase enemy item drop rate.

The best areas to farm gems are the upper Tartarus floors which become accessible from the middle to late stages of the main story. While some gems can be collected on the lower floors, they only appear as enemy drops on the higher and more dangerous Tartarus dungeon floors.
