Character Tendency Guide

What is Character Tendency?

Character Tendency is your character’s “alignment” with either White or Black and has a number of effects on gameplay. As with World Tendency, certain items, NPCs, quests, and events will appear with specific Character Tendencies.

Unlike World Tendency, however, the effects of Character Tendency take effect immediately and do not require you to return to the Nexus for them to activate.

When starting a new game, your character starts with Neutral Character Tendency and changes whenever you kill or defeat certain people in the game. Character Tendency also carries over to New Game Plus (NG+)

White – Pure White Character Tendency

White – Pure White Character represents the “good” alignment and gains the following effects listed below.

• Increased attack power (soul form) with 10% boost at White and 20% at Pure White. Note that this also stacks with attack boosts gained from White – Pure White World Tendency.
• Increased attack power when helping a player as a Blue Phantom in their world.

Actions that Lead to White – Pure White Character Tendency

Kill Black Phantom NPCs (Offline)

Killing all 1 Black Phantom NPC shifts your Character Tendency to White. Defeat them all to gain Pure White Tendency.

Kill Black Phantom Invaders (Online)

White – Pure White Character Tendency Benefits

Friend’s Ring

The Friend’s Ring can only be obtained by talking to the Monumental when you have Pure White Character Tendency.

Weapon Attack Bonuses

Demonbrandt

Wielding the Demonbrandt at Pure White Character Tendency grants you +130 Physical Attack and +110 Magic Attack bonuses.

Northern Regalia

With either Pure White or Pure Black Character Tendency, you gain +135 Physical and Magic Attack bonuses when wielding the Northern Regalia.

Black – Pure Black Character Tendency

Pure Black Character represents the bad alignment and gains the following effects listed below.

• Reduced maximum HP (soul form) with 47.5% of max HP at Black and 45% at Pure Black Character Tendency.
• Increased attack power as a Black Phantom invading another world.

Actions that Lead to Black – Pure Black Character Tendency

Kill Friendly NPCs (Offline)

Killing 4 or 5 friendly NPC shifts your Character Tendency from Pure White to Pure Black.

Kill Host Player in their World (Online)

Black – Pure Black Character Tendency Benefits

Mephistopheles Assassination Quests

Mephistopheles will appear on the second floor of the Nexus after you have released Yurt the Silent Chief from his cage in Fool’s Idol Archstone (3-2).

Below are the rewards for killing various NPCs.

Weapon Attack Bonuses

Soulbrandt

Wielding the Soulbrandt at Pure Black Character Tendency grants you +120 Physical Attack and +130 Magic Attack bonuses.

Northern Regalia

With either Pure White or Pure Black Character Tendency, you gain +135 Physical and Magic Attack bonuses when wielding the Northern Regalia.
