World Tendency Guide

What is World Tendency?

World Tendency is a changing state of the worlds that you can explore in Demon’s Souls. It is affected by a number different actions that you take in a specific world and will take effect after you return to the Nexus.

World Tendency States

There are five main states of World Tendency which are Pure White, White, Neutral, Black, and Pure Black. When starting a new game, all worlds will have Neutral World Tendency which serve as the “default” state.

World Tendency events

World Tendency also affects the occurrence of certain events. These include the appearance of certain NPCs, quests, and enemies throughout each world. Some locations will also be inaccessible unless the a specific World Tendency state is achieved.

World Tendency Numerical Value

World Tendency states are more accurately read and measured by numerical values. In this guide, certain actions will have a corresponding number value that determines whether the act leads to White – Pure White World Tendency (+1 to +3) or Black – Pure Black World Tendency (-1 to -3).

All worlds will have Neutral World Tendency (0) when starting a new game. Note that World Tendencies carry over to New Game Plus (NG+).

Death and World Tendency

Dying a certain number of times while in body form outside the Nexus will affect World Tendency as summarized in the table below.

1 +2 (White)
2 +1 (Neutral)

  • Fewer equipment upgrade stones dropped by enemies
  • Increased attack power in Soul Form with 10% boost at White, and 20% at Pure White World Tendencies. Note that this also stacks with damage increase gained through current Character Tendency.
