All Demon Skills Types in Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster
Apart from using normal attacks, Demi-fiend can also unleash skills to win over his opponents in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne: HD Remaster. They include Physical Skills, Elemental Skills, Recovery Skills, Defense Skills, Support Skills, Passive Skills, and other skill types.
Sources of Skills
Skills are accessed by Demi-fiend through different means. This includes the Magatama, Demon Allies, and Damage Items.
Magatama
One of the sources of skills is through Demi-fiend’s Magatama. There are two general types of Magatamas which are the Physical type and the Magical type. Furthermore, each Magatama has an affinity to certain attributes and skill types. For example, the Ankh Magatama is focused on Healing or Support skills while the Narukami Magatama is centered on Electricity damage and Passive skills.
Demon Allies
The second source of skills for Demi-fiend is through his demon allies in the game. Similar to Magatamas, each Demon has an affinity for certain attributes and skills. For example, High Pixie has skills related to Healing, Electricity, and Force (or Wind) Elemental Skills.
Combat Items
These are items that function similarly to normal skills. They are mostly elemental, status ailment, support skills found in some Magatamas of Demons.
Types of Skills
Here is a breakdown of skill types in the game. If you have played Persona games before some skill types will be familiar:
Physical Skills
Physical skills deal physical damage to enemies at the cost of the user’s own HP. Many of the most damaging skills belong to this category. Enemies inflicted with Freeze or Shock status ailments will also take increased damage from Physical skills. There are also Physical skills that also inflict Poison status as a bonus effect.
Magic or Elemental Skills
Magic or Elemental skills are divided into nine sub-categories which are Fire, Ice, Electricity, Force (or Wind), and Almighty. These skills mainly deal damage to a specific type of “element” (with the exception of Almighty which is described as being a special “neutral” attribute). Certain sub-categories also have unique mechanics, such as being able to inflict various status conditions and have effective synergies with other types of magic skills or physical skills.
Instant Death Skills
Instant Death skills are also magic or elemental skills. They include Expel (or Light), Death (or Dark), which specializes in eliminating enemies quickly by chance.
Ailment Skills
Ailment skills are used to inflict a variety of status and mental effects on enemies, temporarily giving you an advantage in combat. In SMT 3: Nocturne, they are grouped into three categories namely Curse skills (for Mute/Silence and Poison status), Nerve skills (for Bind and Stun status ailments), and Mind skills (for Sleep, Panic, and Charm mental ailments).
Healing and Recovery Skills
Recovery skills focus on restoring HP and MP, as well as curing allies of status conditions.
Support Skills
Support skills range from enhancing the performance of allies to weakening enemies in battle. These skills are extremely helpful when dealing with powerful enemies, especially bosses, to make encounters more manageable.
Passive Skills
Passive skills are abilities that are always in effect when engaging enemies. They range from increasing the power of certain physical and magic skills, granting enhanced evasion to allowing allies to survive fatal attacks once during the battle.
Conversation Skills
Conversation Skills covers recruit demon skills, trade skills, and interruption skills. The skills can be used both by your party and enemies during a battle.
