Ongyo-Ki Strategies
Here is a breakdown of the battle strategies against the boss:
Enter boss room during Full Moon
Don’t enter the boss room yet until it’s Full Moon or Full Kagutsuchi. This is very important since it will help you pinpoint the boss when it uses its Replicate skill. The skill adds three fakes of the boss during battle.
Equip Anathema Magatama
Make sure the Protagonist or Demi-fiend is wearing an Anathema Magatama. This Magatama resists instant kill Death attacks.
Be familiar with boss attacks and skills
Make it a point to get familiar with the attacks and skills of the boss. Adjust your strategy when the boss use skills like Replicate. To counter Replicate, look for a shadow beneath to help identify the real boss. Also, when you’re on your last turn, hit the real Ongyo-Ki to make the boss focused on setting up its Replicate skill rather than attack you full on.
Again, have Phys resist ally demons. This would punish the boss for not hitting attacks by consuming one regular turn from its side.
Land Debuffs
Land debuffs on the boss while leaving some MP for healing. Debuffs can be in the form of attack power decrease (Tarunda/War Cry), defense power decrease (Rakunda), and hit/evasion power decrease (Sukunda/Fog Breath). These debuffs can be accessed by demons in your party.
Prioritize on landing Sukunda/Fog Breath first. Followed by Rakunda and Tarunda/War Cry.
Cast Buffs
Cast buffs on your party members as well. Buffs can be in the form of attack power increase (Tarukaja), magic power increase (Makakaja), defense power increase (Rakukaja), and hit/evasion power increase (Sukukaja). These buffs can be accessed by demons in your party.
Prioritize on landing Sukukaja first. Followed by Tarukaja/Makakaja, and Rakukaja.
Use Magic Skills
Ongyo-Ki does not have resistances to all Magic attacks so feel free to use strong Fire, Ice, Electricity, and Force skills. The damage will be higher if the party is buffed and some can inflict status effects like Freeze or Shock/Paralyze by chance.
Boost Attacks
In addition to buffs, you can also use attacks further by using Focus (next Physical and Almighty deals x2.5 damage). This damage buff can be accessed by demons in your party.
Use Phys attacks and skills
Ongyo-Ki does not have resistance to physical attacks so you can damage it with Physical skills. If you don’t have them, just rely on your high-level demons and deal normal attacks instead.
Heal Allies
Keep the party’s HP sustained by using healing skills. Especially when other party members are using HP-consuming Physical skills.
