Stats Guide in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster
Your character’s performance in battle is determined by 5 primary stats which are Strength, Magic, Vitality, Agility, and Luck. When you level up, you will be able to freely allocate points to any of these attributes based on your preferences.
List of Stats and Their Effects
Below are your character’s primary stats in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster (SMT 3: Nocturne) and what these parameters affect during gameplay.
Stat | Details |
---|---|
Strength | Affects the damage dealt by the character using normal attacks and Physical skills. |
Magic | Affects the damage dealt by the character using magic attacks and maximum MP. |
Vitality | Affects the character’s maximum HP and damage dealt by Physical skills which are determined by maximum HP. |
Agility | Affects the character’s likelihood of moving first in battle (turn order), evasion rate, and hit rate. |
Luck | Affects the character’s likelihood of moving first in battle (turn order), critical hit rate, chances of escaping from battle, and item drop rate. |
Which stats should you focus on during the early stages?
Agility – First Priority
It is recommended to focus on increasing your character’s Agility at the start of the game. Being able to act first can easily set the tone of the whole battle which can spell certain victory or defeat immediately on the first turn. This becomes especially important against the first few enemies encountered in the story. While they are quite weak, they can quickly overwhelm you if you give them the initiative.
Try to have your Agility within the 10 to 15 range during the early stages of the game. This will help you begin the battle with the momentum on your side, preventing your opponent from even getting a turn throughout the battle.
Strength – Second Priority
Strength is the second most important stat to focus in the beginning of the main story. Your character will mostly rely on normal attacks and Physical skills, which are determined by the Strength stat, to deal damage at the start of the game.
Other Stats
After allotting sufficient points to Agility and Strength, you are free to prioritize Magic, Vitality, or Luck as you progress further into the game. It is, however, generally better to put the least focus on raising the Luck stat, only raising it little by little if possible.
The Luck stat does become quite valuable when you want to gain access to the Labyrinth of Amala as the 3rd Kalpa areas (extra dungeons). You need to have at least 18 Luck to be able to fully explore the dungeon and enter all of the doors that house many Cache Cubes and Shady Brokers.
