Metroid Dread - How to Do Melee Counters

You can pull off a powerful Melee Counter to momentarily stun enemies, giving you an opening for a follow-up barrage to deal massive amounts of damage. Foes defeated as the result of being stunned will drop more items as well, making countering a valuable skill to learn throughout the game.

Melee Counter

To perform a Melee Counter, press the × button in time with an enemy’s attack. If done correctly, Samus will execute a powerful close-range parry and immediately take aim at the foe while they are stunned.

Dash Melee Counter

You can also perform a Dash Melee Counter by pressing the × button while dashing. Unlike other Melee Counters, Dash Melee Counter will deal damage and is a useful option if you want to be more aggressive against foes.

Note that Melee Counters can also be executed from a number of other positions, including while jumping, sliding, and crouching.
