How to Unlock Hard Mode in Metroid Dread

Metroid Dread - Hard Mode

Hard Mode is a higher difficulty setting that offers a tougher challenge for more experienced players. It is unlocked after beating the game on Normal Mode with any clear time record.

Starting Hard Mode

Upon clearing the game, Hard Mode can be selected upon starting a new game from the title screen menu. As indicated in the game’s description when choosing the difficulty, it is intended for “expert players.” Note that you cannot change the difficulty setting afterwards when you begin a new playthrough.

Tougher Enemies and Bosses

Regular enemies and bosses will have more health and deal more damage in Hard Mode. Because of this, it is recommended to spend time doing practice runs on Normal difficulty, especially if you have not unlocked all Ending Rewards on that setting.
