How to Use Free Aim in Metroid Dread
Free aim is a standard ability that allows Samus to fire at any angle, giving you more precision to hit enemies and destroy obstacles in the game. Getting used to this mechanic is especially important during boss fights as it allows you to shoot down projectiles or attack weak points.
Free Aim
To use free aim, hold the L button. This will activate a laser sight line on Samus’ arm cannon. Then, use the left stick to adjust the angle of your shot. Note that Samus will automatically face the direction of a nearby target when going into aiming manually.
Action | Input |
---|---|
Free Aim | Press and hold the L button. Afterwards, aim the laser sight on your desired target by tilting the left stick. |
Free aim can be activated while standing still, jumping, running, while grabbing onto a ledge, and while clinging onto magnet strips. While running, Samus will only be able to aim her shot in the direction she is facing.
Tips for Free Aim
Practice as often as possible.
Try to get familiar with free aim at the start of the game as it will become very important during boss fights that require you to hit weak points and shoot down projectiles. Being comfortable with manually aiming also lets you make the most out of limited capacity weapons, particularly missiles. Practicing aiming while running, jumping, and hanging will also expand the approaches available to you when taking on different enemies and bosses in the game.
Why is the free Aim so God damn sensitive?
