How to Use Slide in Metroid Dread
Slide is a standard ability that allows Samus to move through narrow passages quickly, maintaining momentum without stopping. While engaged in combat against various enemies and bosses, Samus can use the ability to get out of being cornered, get past them and run away, or put herself in a more advantageous side of the area.

To slide, tilt the left stick either to the left or right and press the ZL button. Samus can go into morph ball or perform a melee counter while sliding as well.

Samus will automatically do a slide after successfully freeing herself from EMMI enemies using a timed press of the X button. There are also a few other enemies, usually large ones with long legs, that you can get past by sliding under them.

As mentioned, sliding against enemies is a useful way to get past them without taking any damage. From there, you can choose to engage them from your new position or run away if you do not have any means of defeating them at the moment.
