All Planet ZDR Locations in Metroid Dread
Planet ZDR servers as the main setting for Metroid Dread. Samus Aran, a space bounty hunter, was given two missions by the Galactic Federation. One is to confirm the existence of the deadly X Parasite. Two is to find out the missing E.M.M.I. research robots that were dispatched with the same objective.
Planet ZDR is split into multiple layers with unique traits and organisms. Also, remnants of the Chozo civilizations are present on the planet such as shuttles and elevators connecting some areas. Each layer of the planet has unique traits and creatures.
Artaria
Artaria is an area located in the deepest part of ZDR and has low-temperature environments. There are various amounts of magma on the upper portion of Artaria which serves as the primary source of the planet’s energy.
Artaria is the first location visited by Samus. There are some doors Samus cannot open at the start of the game so revisit the location once she obtained new abilities. Mark those spots in your map or take in-game screenshots using a Capture Button to keep a record.
Unique Enemies
Here is a breakdown of some enemies encountered in Artaria.
Enemy | Description | How to Defeat |
---|---|---|
Klaida | A four-footed creature that is non-aggressive. It causes damage and repels when touched. | Use any weapon attacks on any part of the creature. |
Ply | A small, flying creature whose head resembles a large eyeball. Once it detects Samus, it follows her, aims, and then charges with its large-spiked tail. Sometimes found in flocks. | Use Wide Beam attacks on any part of the creature. |
Muzby | A terrestrial creature with heavy arms is one of the larger lifeforms on Artaria. It drags its arms behind as it walks. Because it dwells and has evolved in darkness, a Muzby doesn’t have the equivalent to a face. It has tough, rugged skin and high endurance. | Use Charge Beam or Standard Missile attacks on any part of the creature. You can slide between its legs when it lifts its arms to attack. |
Cataris
Cataris is another location that serves as the central system of the planet where hot streams of magma flow out in many places. This energy-generating magma provides supply and circulation that powers the whole planet, including various facilities.
Cataris is the second location and magma abounds in this location. Some rooms are at high temperatures that cause heat damage so Samus must be protected by wearing her Varia Suit. Watch how magma moves through the circulation pipes within the areas of Cataris and see newly open routes.
Unique Enemies
Here is a breakdown of some enemies encountered in Cataris.
Enemy | Description | How to Defeat |
---|---|---|
Vulkran | This small creature can stick to and move across floors, walls, and ceilings. It stores magma in its body and spits it out when it detects danger. Autclast | A robot that has cylinders on both of its sides. It can slam down with great force, creating an explosion that sends streaks of fire across the ground. | Use Dash Melee to stun and use any weapon attacks on any part of the creature. |
Obsydomithon | A rock-like creature that lives near magma. Usually, it remains still in an ore-like form, but transforms into a battle form when it detects Samus. It has a burst attack that can penetrate terrain. | Use Charge Beam or Standard Missile attacks on any part of the creature. |
Dairon
Dairon serves as a biological research site as well as home to many robots developed under the advanced Chozo technology. Some power in this location is off to some spots so it is difficult to detect enemies from the shadows.
Dairon is the third location that features many robots developed from Chozo tech. Since there is an abundant number of robot enemies, Samus needs to use Charge Beam or Standards Missiles to penetrate the thick armor of the enemies. Similarly, use Dash Melee to counter and create an opening for an attack against them.
Unique Enemies
Here is a breakdown of some enemies encountered in Dairon.
Enemy | Description | How to Defeat |
---|---|---|

Burenia
Burenia is the marine research site of Planet ZDR. Many aquatic creatures can be found here. The bottom half of the site is underwater so Samus will be at a disadvantage when it comes to movement.
Burenia is the fourth location that features underwater levels. Again, Samus’ agility is affected and her suit makes it tougher to fend off underwater enemies. Use her Grapple Beam to catch enemies and to latch on magnetic surfaces.
Unique Enemies
Here is a breakdown of some enemies encountered in Burenia.
Enemy | Description | How to Defeat |
---|---|---|
Batalloon | An aquatic creature that calls ZDR home. It floats underwater but slowly approaches Samus if she hits it. Despite its appearance, it’s surprisingly durable—be careful not to underestimate it. | Use Charge Beam on any part of the creature. Use Flash Shift to avoid damage. |
Dizzean | This sea creature resembles a small jellyfish. While individually weak, they find strength in numbers and always collect in large smacks. | Use Charge Beam on any part of the creature. Use Flash Shift to avoid damage. |
