Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139… is an upgraded version of the original 2010 game Nier Replicant released only in Japan for the Playstation 3.
The new version features modern visuals and gameplay, and a compelling post-apocalyptic storyline told through the exploits of its different characters.
Nier Replicant is set before the events of the Square Enix’s acclaimed action role-playing title Nier Automata. Certain characters and themes from the latter game also appear in the prequel, shedding more light into their origins and valuable insight into the interconnected narrative of the two works.
Nier Replicant follows the adventures of a young man named Nier who journeys from his home village in search of the “Sealed Verses” to cure his terminally ill sister Yonah. He is accompanied by a sentient magical tome called Grimoire Weiss which possesses mysterious powers and a strange connection to the Sealed Verses.
The upgraded version of Nier Replicant retains the original title’s action role-playing gameplay, allowing players to explore vast locations and battle a variety of enemies and bosses.
Players control Nier in third-person view as they travel different open areas ranging from lush grasslands and forests to harsh desert plains and fixed settlements inhabited by both peaceful and hostile beings.
Quests can be initiated by talking to non-playable characters (NPCs) or by meeting certain requirements throughout the main story.
Combat (Melee Weapons)
Melee combat is done by equipping various weapons such as one-handed and two-handed swords, and spears. Each of these weapon types have unique characteristics and move sets to suit different playstyles.
One-handed swords, for instance, can be used to unleash quick strikes but suffer from having lower damage per hit compared to other weapons.
Two-handed swords, meanwhile, are very slow, heavy-hitting weapons that deal the most damage with each swing and are very effective against groups of enemies.
Lastly, spears offer a good attack speed, attack range, and damage but do not surpass one-handed and two-handed swords in each of the their strengths. The spear’s move set focuses on thrust attacks which have good reach but are typically thrown out in a linear direction.
Combat (Sealed Verses)
Sealed Verses are powerful ranged attack spells that Nier can use with the help of Grimoire Weiss. They are usually obtained by defeating bosses during the main story, talking to NPCs, or meeting certain conditions in the game. Sealed Verses require MP to cast during battle.
