Walkthrough
Nier’s Village
1 | Head to the library and talk to Popola. |

2 | Go home and check the shelves for an item and money. Afterwards, go upstairs and talk to Yonah. |
3 | Before heading out to the Haunted Manor, be sure to clear any remaining sidequests available since you will not be able to do them when you enter the manor area. |
3 | When you are ready, exit through the Southern Gate to travel to the Southern Plains. |
4 | Follow the marked destination to the east and enter the gate of the Haunted Manor. |
Haunted Manor
1 | Talk to the butler (Sebastian) in front of the manor and follow him to the dining room. |

2 | When Sebastian leaves, head for the door near the fireplace at the other end of the room and go out. |
3 | Go forward to the door at the end of the corridor and enter. |
4 | You will be in another corridor full of paintings. Move west to find a large door in the middle of the corridor and examine it. |
5 | After Weiss talks to you, go back to the dining area. |
6 | When you return to the dining room, Kaine will be gone. Return to the corridor full of paintings and go out the door you examined before Weiss told you to return to the dining room. |
7 | Once outside at the courtyard, move past the fountain and enter the door at the other end. |
8 | Destroy the box to get a Spirit Drop and go through the door ahead. Check the sink to get the Moon Key. |
9 | Backtrack all the way to the corridor full of paintings and use the Moon Key to unlock the door at the east end of the area. |
10 | After going through the door, move forward and turn right to the open corridor. Be careful of the spider that will ambush you near the turn. |
11 | Enter the door for a cutscene. Afterwards, talk to Emil to get the Manor Map and Star Key. |
12 | Leave the room and use the Star Key to unlock the door on the southwestern corner of the corridor. |
13 | In the next corridor, go inside the door to your left to find a butler copy. Leave the room and walk to the other end of the corridor. Go inside the room to your left to get the Light Key on the desk. Take out the shade that appears. |
14 | Exit the room and use the Light Key to enter the room at locked room at the end of the corridor. |
15 | Approach the butler and watch the cutscene. You will then get the Darkness Key. |
16 | Backtrack to the corridor full of paintings while taking out the shades that appear. Use the Darkness Key to open the door at the other end of the corridor. |
17 | Continue killing the shades in the next corridor while moving to the other end. Get Blade of Treachery from the box near the north door (you can go in if you want to kill some shades when they ambush you). Turn left to find a save point you can use. |
18 | Enter the room to the left of the save point and prepare to battle Grimoire Rubrum. |
19 | Watch the cutscene. You will obtain Dark Whirlwind (Sealed Verse) afterwards. |
20 | Return to Nier’s Village. |
Strategy
Grimoire Rubrum
Bombard Grimoire Rubrum with magic or get in close and use melee attacks to damage it. When it summons book pages around it, destroy them with magic.
Grimoire Rubrum will eventually put up a barrier around that makes it impervious to attacks. Wait for the cutscene to trigger. Afterwards, break the barrier using magic and unload on the boss to damage it. When the attack gauge appears, finish it off to end the fight.
