Persona 5 Scramble Follows Up On Persona 5’s Storyline
The first full trailer of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers was released yesterday, October 24th, 2019. The new Persona “musou” game will be available both on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch next year on February 20th, 2020. It was also confirmed that the game will not be a spin-off but a full sequel title with new story elements.
What is Persona 5 Scramble?
Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is a game collaboration between Sega’s Atlus and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force. Omega Force is known for its hack-and-slash action-RPGs such as Dynasty Warriors and Attack on Titan.
The events of Persona 5 Scramble take place during the summer and are set half a year after the original title’s main story. New metaverse-related incidents were seen in the trailer which could be linked to previous events in the first game. The Phantom Thieves then begin investigating these strange occurrences affecting the whole of Japan.
The new metaverse-related locations featured in the video looked like parallel worlds similar to Palaces. They were shown appearing all over Japan along with new and powerful shadows. After reuniting for their summer vacation, the Phantom Thieves traveled to affected cities to learn more about the phenomenon. The cities the Phantom Thieves will explore include Shibuya, Sapporo, Sendai, Osaka, and Okinawa.
The original game’s main characters will all be playable in Persona 5 Scramble, except for Goro Akechi. The group’s navigator, Futaba Sakura, will remain as an unplayable support character during battles. It was also implied that Persona 5 Royal’s Kasumi Yoshizawa will not appear in Persona 5 Scramble, as the official website confirmed that the game takes place “after Persona 5‘s ending” and not “after Persona 5 Royal‘s ending.” A new playable character who uses a pair of yoyos as a weapon also appeared in the trailer. A female villain and a character resembling a police official were also shown.
When it comes to the battle system, the official website confirmed that players can bring up to four characters in battle and can switch control at any time. There was also a calendar, baton pass, stealth mechanics, and free exploration seen in the video. A new side-scrolling feature was confirmed as well, indicating that the upcoming title will not solely employ hack-and-slash style gameplay.
Pre-orders for Persona 5 Scramble are now open in Japan. Those getting either the standard edition or special edition will receive a “DLC Persona Series Battle BGM Set.” This DLC features battle themes from past Persona titles. More information about Persona 5 Scramble will be given on November 4th through a livestream event. The broadcast will most likely provide gameplay footage and more information on the game.
