Difficulty Settings
Before starting a new game, you will need to choose your preferred game difficulty. Note that once you have confirmed your choice, there is now way to change it at any time during the story.
The chosen difficulty setting mainly affects the game’s combat and the required number of Lucky Emblems to unlock the secret ending.
How to Unlock the Secret Ending
Beginner
A mode where enemies are weak, so beginners can really play with confidence here. It is recommended for those who just want to enjoy the game’s story.
When playing on Beginner difficulty, you will deal x1.5 damage to enemies and receive x0.5 damage from them. You will also need to find and shoot 90 Lucky Emblems to unlock the game’s secret ending in this mode.
Standard
Recommended mode when playing for the first time.
When playing on Standard difficulty, you will deal normal amounts of damage to enemies and, in turn, receive normal amounts of damage from them. You will also need to find and shoot 60 Lucky Emblems to unlock the game’s secret ending in this mode.
Proud
A mode where enemies are strong. Recommended for those who want a bit of additional challenge.
When playing on Proud difficulty, you will deal normal amounts of damage to enemies and receive x1.5 damage from them. You will also need to find and shoot 30 Lucky Emblems to unlock the game’s secret ending in this mode.
Critical
A difficulty setting added as free DLC on April 23, 2019. Critical Mode is recommended for those who want to experience the toughest challenge the game has to offer.
The following key changes found in critical mode are listed below.
- Maximum HP and MP are halved.
- The chances of triggering Situation Commands are lower
- Damage dealt by enemies is greatly increased (x2) while damage dealt is lowered (x0.5)
- Certain pre-unlocked abilities can be equipped at the start
- Critical Mode-specific abilities are added
- Automatically equipped with Soldier Earrings at the start
