Strategy

Master Xehanort’s X Blade throw can be deflected

In the early and mid stages of the fight, Master Xehanort will throw the X Blade to cover a large area of the battlefield in ice. You can guard against the attack just before it conjures ice to leave Master Xehanort vulnerable to a counterattack.

Avoiding the light beam attacks

The light beam attacks that are summoned on the outer area of the battlefield can be avoided by dodging to the side. Wait until you see symbols shine before evading to avoid getting clipped.

Dodging the quadruple beam cannons

Run to the side when each of the beam cannons appear to avoid getting hit. Try to adjust your camera to make the attack easier to dodge.

After the four beam cannons have finished firing, Master Xehanort will appear in the middle of the area. Approach and attack him as he will briefly be vulnerable.

Spiked Projectiles

The spiky projectiles that spin towards you can be avoided by gliding away from them, though keep in mind that they have good tracking. It is very risky to block them as they will explode and freeze the affected area upon landing.

After throwing out six spiky projectiles, Master Xehanort will emerge from a keyhole. Be ready for him and attack him when he appears.

Field Change Attack Patterns

When Master Xehanort’s HP drops to about half, he will change the area and perform a series of attacks. Use the table below to know their order and how to guard or dodge them.

  1. Eh the sphere blades are highly inconsistent. Gliding works but it doesn’t and D-roll works but it doesn’t.

Square screwed the pooch on this one. I really do believe it
1.) Status effect: This was never a thing until BbS and even then there was subtle effects like poison and burn damage. Not effects that force you into a take a death situation.
2.) Multi purpose. The spheres cover every single defensive option. Don’t guard them because the shockwave hits guard’s blind spots. Don’t Dodge Roll them because sometimes he will throw 2. If you dodge to early he will retaliate with the second. Sometimes if both are coming at you. Dodging them in a row sets you up to get hit by his next attempt. Don’t Glide because the of the way he throws them. Leaving the key portal and expanding a large and sometimes highly unreactable hitbox at you.

3.) Camera. Based on your position on screen M-X will throw it and that’s the biggest issue. Sometimes if you roll right his next attempt will be off screen and you can’t see him which is very very unfair.

Eliminating any of these especially the third would make this a bit more balanced. I don’t think any of the other Datas have attacks designed to screw you no matter what you do.
