Guardian Scouts largely occupy the bulk of Combat-focused Shrines. Contrary to their giant counterparts, these rely mostly on melee attacks and spawn inside Shrines instead of huge terrains. They have several weapons in their arsenal and prove to be intimidating in combat despite their size, boasting a combination of short and long-range attacks, making them worthy of estimating a challenger’s combat skill when faced in the Shrine.

Strategy
- Specific Attack Tactics
For Attack specific tactics, these would cover measures against: Its Weapon Strike, Spinning Blade Attack, and Focused Laser Attack.
Its Weapon Strike is a somewhat predictable move, and considered its staple. With some practice, you should be able to find the perfect opportunity to dodge it and counter with combos of your own, preferably with an Ancient Weapon.
When the Guardian Scout is about to execute its Spinning Blade Attack, there are several ways to go around this. You could either take cover behind a pillar if there are any to make the Scout slam itself into it, preventing it from landing the attack. Another is to summon ice pillars using Cryonis in place of the absence of Shrine pillars. The last is to fire either an Ice Arrow or Shock Arrow to halt its devastating attack.
When faced against its Focused Laser Attack, there are two approaches to take: either raise the Shield to perform a parry which should be used especially in moderate to long-ranged encounters, or immediately pursue after it with a barrage of melee attacks to make it stagger when faced at close encounters.
- Overall Strategy
General recommendations are split into two. You could either focus on charged attacks or send out elemental attacks. The first one will require a sturdy weapon such as the two-handed ancient battle axe. Circle around the Guardian Scout and observe which direction it is facing. Notice that the direction it will face can be anticipated based on the weapon it will wield. Put Link at the opposite side of the Guardian’s peripheral, then if you see it is about to draw its weapon, immediately get to the opposite side to avoid the attack. If in case you are still forced to aim, spin continuously holding Y then tilt the direction with L. Once you master the pattern, it should allow you to defeat Scouts with speed and ease.
On the other hand, the safer approach is to rely on elemental weapons. Armed with an Ice-infused Sword or Arrow, or a Shock-infused one, these will incapacitate the Guardian Scout to buy time to land your melee combo. When faced against a Guardian Scout that is standing on water, the Shock strategy would deal even more damage. Rinse and repeat to land attacks safely to finish it off.

The foucesed laser is only used at low health
If you are early with the show the first shot will hit you and the second will be nulled out by invincibility while rolling. If you get it perfect it dies. If you are late, your shield breaks on the first shot and the second shot you get straight to the chest.
The second shot is normally for the guardian scouts II-IV.
If you have trouble parrying the focused laser attack, or if you’re simply out of shields, I found that simply sprinting around the guardian scout was enough to dodge the shots reliably. Five stamina upgrades are more than enough to sprint during the whole phase, even if you start sprinting early to be safe. After that, he takes so damn long to charge the next attack that you can freely hit it until it’s time to sprint again, at which point your stamina will be completely regenerated.
Hi DictateurGenial, thanks for your input. We’ve only attempted the sprint once and we can confirm that it works.
Excellent point and I think the easiest for “beginners” to take on. Thx for the comment!
it shoots 4 focoused laser shots
