Battle Guide
Below is an introduction to the battle system in Persona 5 Strikers. Many of the features are roughly translated, we will update this when the game comes out.
Action RPG
Despite being heavily action-based, P5S isn’t too different when it comes to combat. In fact, battles, like the main series, relies on determining enemy attributes and using types that are effective against them.
How to determine the enemy’s weakness
At first glance, you need to assess types to know which ones put you at an advantage. Strike a foe with one attribute at a time and see which types do more damage. In combat, you can hover to the “Persona Summon” screen to learn about the enemy’s weaknesses.
Enemy Weakness and Status Effects
Battle System
The battle starts when you come in contact with an enemy’s marker. This feature describes the game’s unique Jail encounter system.
HP and SP are set
The levels of health and SP for each character are independent. In other words, if one of your characters gauge is getting low, swap them out to keep the battle going.
Character-Specific Skills
Each character has their own specialized attacks. For example, Skull specializes with a charge-based skill, whereas Panther can immobile enemies with her signature skill.
Battle Tips
Conserve SP
P5S presents many encounters where you’ll have to depend on skills that yield high damage. The drawback to having said skills often comes at the price of spending more SP. However, you can execute a sneak attack to take away a large chunk of the enemy’s health. Look for vantage points and then make use of “Phantom Dash” to reduce SP cost while maintaining damage across the board.
Snipe enemies
While searching, use the “Shoot” command to close the distance and engage in combat. Having the “Shoot” command gives you a chance for a “Sneak Attack” on enemies from afar.
Mix and match attacks
Combine regular attacks (▢) with special attacks (△) to reap the effects of enhanced attacks. Capitalize on these effects to inflict more damage on targets.
Learn how to trigger Persona’s skills
Get familiar with the inputs to activate certain Skills. For example you need to execute a three button combination in succession to have Pixie use heal without spending SP.
Get Familiar with Master Arts
Defeat many enemies and you will eventually unlock the ability to execute Master Arts. With Master Arts, the characters can extend the duration of combos and apply special effects such as changing the attack’s attribute or include more effects.
Unleash Showtime
Showtime can be performed when the active Persona’s gauge is maxed out. Being a powerful attack, Showtime gives you the opportunity to hit multiple enemies due to its large area of effect. Among the cast, Joker stands out since he can command one of many Persona in combat which gives him many options.
Shake off ailments
Some enemies gain the upper hand by slowing you down with status ailments. The moment you notice that your character is not performing normally, rotate the left stick to break free.
