Game Overview
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition is an upgraded version of the action role-playing game originally released on the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. It features enhanced visuals, English voiceovers, and challenging post-game content, and cross-platform support that were not in the original release.
Story
As with the first version of the game, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition tells the story of a group of adventurers on a journey to find rare trees that produce “myrrh.” The mysterious substance is used to fuel the fragments of the Great Crystal that wards off a deadly miasma spreading all across the various settlements.
Players will begin their quest from the village of Tipa and set out on a caravan with four of the world’s races working together. Their journey takes them on perilous lands while meeting travelers and fellow adventurers along the way. They must find a way to power the Great Crystal and destroy the source of the miasma to save their world.
Gameplay
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition lets players select their avatar from four different races that have their own strengths and weaknesses. Players can also choose the family trade of their character, gaining access to unique facilities and items at the various settlements discovered throughout the game world.
Exploration is mainly done aboard the caravan, allowing players to visit towns and villages or enter dungeons. Fellow adventurers, travelers, and enemies are frequently encountered as well to drive the game’s narrative or to initiate side quests.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition uses action-style combat akin to many hack-and-slash titles. Players use buttons assigned to specific commands to attack with weapons or use magic. Enemies, especially bosses, have specific attack patterns and weaknesses that can be exploited to easily defeat them, rewarding strategy and experimentation during battle.
Online multiplayer is available with up to four players. Exclusive to the remastered edition is the addition of cross-platform play where people on the Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices can engage in co-op sessions.
Remastered Edition New Features
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition brings a number of new features as an enhanced port of the original game.
HD Graphics
The most noticeable improvement of the remastered edition is its enhanced graphics, rendering cutscenes and in-game events with the capability of current-generation consoles and devices.
English Voice Overs
For the first time, the game will have English voicework to bring to life the various characters introduced throughout the game’s main story.
Updated Soundtrack
The game’s music has been enhanced with new recordings and the inclusion of additional tracks not heard in the original game.
New UI and Mini Map
The UI has been redesigned and now includes a mini map to more easily navigate through towns and dungeons.
High-Difficulty Dungeons
After clearing the game’s main story, players can take on post-game dungeons that pit them against extremely powerful enemies and bosses.
Cross-platform Play
As mentioned before, up to four players can team up and battle their way through various dungeons whether they are on the Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, or a mobile device.
