Recommendation | ★★★ |
Selkies are very similar to Clavats in terms of pure stats, though the former only slightly loses out in defense and magic. What sets Selkies apart from Clavats and the other races is their incredibly quick focus attacks which come out almost instantaneously.
Since Selkies do not enjoy the same durability as Lilties and Clavats, they are more suited for a hit-and-run playstyle. They can use their mobility to quickly throw out a focus attack before pulling back and waiting for another good opening in the enemy’s defenses.
Selkies are also the only race which can join the jumping mini game in Leuda. Playing it allows you to obtain Orichalcum by getting a score higher than 4000 points.

Multiplayer Guide
Hit-and-run Focus Attacker
Selkies should take advantage of their good mobility easily avoid enemy attacks or retreat to use healing magic or items. Focus attacks are their main form of offense which boast very good range and charge times. This allows them to strike enemies from a relatively safe distance with enough time to get out of harm’s way.
During boss battles, focus on clearing out minions using focus attacks. When the boss is alone, wait for openings to get in a focus attack then quickly retreat to avoid incoming strikes. You can choose to equip use some healing magic such as Full Life or Curaga when other spellcasters are pinned down or simply have Phoenix Downs or other restorative items in your inventory instead. Debuff spells such as Slow or Stop are also viable options depending on your playstyle and if enemies are resistant to them or not.
Selkies greatly benefit from having the Thief’s Emblem accessory which allows them to throw out focus attacks almost instantly. Angel’s Earring is also a good choice for reducing enemy spell effects, particularly status conditions.
