State of Play Trailer
Kingdom Hearts 3 Re:Mind, the awaited expansion to the latest entry in the Kingdom Hearts series, is set for release on January 23rd, 2020. With just a little over a month before it comes out, a new trailer premiered on Sony’s State of Play event on December 10th. The video included more footage of new and returning elements in the DLC.
Final Fantasy Characters Return
Aerith, Leon, and Yuffie were shown talking with Riku at the beginning of the trailer, confirming their appearance in the upcoming DLC. Based on their conversation, the characters were looking into the mysterious disappearance of Sora, the game’s main protagonist.
It is worth noting that Final Fantasy characters were not present in Kingdom Hearts 3. The expansion may shed light into their absence from the original game.
Group Battles (?)
Brief footage of the various Keyblade warriors fighting Scala Ad Caelum‘s mysterious enemies was also shown in the trailer. The controls on the lower left corner of the screen suggest that players will command the band of heroes as one coordinated unit rather than as separate characters.
Oblivion and Oathkeeper Keyblades
Boss battles against members of Organization XIII featured Sora wielding Roxas‘ Oblivion and Oathkeeper Keyblades. Unlike Roxas, however, Sora is only able to use one of them at a time based on the trailer.
Oblivion and Oathkeeper will be available through a free game update referred to as Version 1.07. This was announced on the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account the day the State of Play trailer was released.
Additionally, a free update is coming to #KingdomHearts III!
In Version 1.07, the Oathkeeper and Oblivion Keyblades will be added, along with a new Form for Sora to master!

Kairi Gameplay
As featured in previous promotional material, Kairi will debut as a playable character in Re:Mind. She was seen fighting what could be a different version of armored Master Xehanort with Sora as her ally.
Kairi was shown performing an area-wide attack that showered enemies with fiery comets. This could somewhat imply her affinity for magic-based attacks, though this has yet to be confirmed.
New Story Events
Scenes not in the original game were featured in the trailer as well. Among these include Sora and Aqua facing off against a swarm of evil Aquas, Luxord and Xigbar talking about the mysterious “black box”, and Sora being trapped in a strange dimension.
Towards the end of the trailer, Sora is seen meeting Yozora, a character from the in-world video game Verum Rex. Yozora eventually playing a significant role in the expanded storyline was previously teased in the Kingdom Hearts 3’s secret ending simply titled “Yozora.”
