Can be changed by pressing the ZR button (Nintendo Switch) or R2 button (Playstation 4 and Playstation 5) or T key (PC Version)

This can be done an any point during the main story as long as you are not engaged in combat or in the middle of certain events.
Day and Night Cycle Effects
Character Path Actions change depending on the time of day.
The unique Path Actions that each of the 8 Travelers (playable characters) have access to is different during the day and night. For example, Partitio’s Purchase Path Action which allows him to buy items from people can only be used during the day. Night time, meanwhile, allows Partitio to use his Hire Path Action to temporary enlist the services of non-player characters (NPCs) in battle.
Certain characters and events may only become accessible at specific times of the day.
The characters that can be interacted with at different locations may change based on the time of day. Certain non-player characters (NPCs) like children, for instance, may not be present at their usual hangout spots during the night.
Your access to events, especially those tied to NPCs that only appear at specific times of the day, are also affected by the time of day. Certain quests may even require you to use a character’s daytime or nighttime Path Action so feel free to adjust the time to your preferences.
Stronger enemies appear at night.
Certain powerful enemies will only spawn after dark. If your party is not strong enough to take on monsters that only appear at night, try exploring the various locations of the game during the day. It may, however, be advantageous to take down nocturnal foes to gain lots of experience (EXP), money, and loot if your characters are at a fairly high level and equipped with good gear.
