How to Unlock a Side Story
Clear the first chapter of the Traveler character
You must first complete the first chapter of Scholar Osvald. After defeating the chapter 1 boss and clearing chapter 2, look around the town and journey outside to find NPCs in need of assistance in the world of Solistia.

Talk to an NPC with a Side Story marker
When you see an NPC with an orange speech bubble flying over its head, approach the NPC and trigger the side story.

Certain side quests may be accessible outside of the towns, while others can only be accessed within the towns.

Make use of Path Actions

| Scrutinize (Daytime) |
Glean information from people (with a given probability). Fail, and your reputation in town will suffer. You won’t be able to use Path Actions if your reputation suffers. Raise Osvald’s level to increase his chances of success. |
| Mug (Nighttime) |
Obtain items from people. You must best them in battle to get the spoils you seek. Mug someone to commence the battle. Emerge victorious, and you can take all their belongings. |
Each side story has a different set of requirements that must be satisfied. Some involve overcoming enemies, while others call on you to provide supplies or communicate with an NPC in a different town. It is preferable to acquire every traveler character so that you can use every Path Action.
