Combat
In contrast to previous titles where combat is turn-based, the combat system in Crystal Chronicles is real time (RTB). In real time battle, enemies show up in the overworld. When encountered, a smooth transition from exploration to combat commences. Player and his allies are free to roam around the battlefield.
Normal Attacks
The attacks that the player or enemy dole out can either be physical or magic. The player has slots for his ability with attack and defend being present right away. With proper timing of action button presses, the character can perform a three hit combo that takes shorter time to complete than if he were to do them in three separate attacks.
Focus Attacks
When the action button is held, the caravanner charges for a focus attack. Focus attacks have various effects which is based on the weapon equipped.
Magic Spells
Magic attacks or spells require the player to carry a magicite orb or use a magic ring. The spell can be charged by holding a button and fired when the button is released. Combining attacks produces a fusion spell.
Combined Magic Spells
A fusion spell can be achieved by overlapping casting circles or merging the spell with a focus attack. The fusion spell can be done in single player mode. The player must properly arrange the required items in the ability screen properly or mix the attack with a spells from a Mog to activate.
