Namine Character Information

Namine in Kingdom Hearts 3

Although she is now living inside Kairi’s heart, Namine may still appear in Kingdom Hearts 3 as a spirit or as data, as suggested by in a trailer for the new game.

According to Zexion, the virtual world that Ansem the Wise created could have included the full data of Roxas. With this new revelation, Zexion might be able to reconstruct the virtual world to include Xion and Namine, two of Roxas’ dearest friends.

Namine’s History

Birth of a Nobody

During the events of the first Kingdom Hearts game, Kairi’s heart is inside Sora’s body. When Ansem, Seeker of Darkness realizes this, he forcefully frees it with a Keyblade. This extraction leads to Sora’s empty body creating a Nobody for Kairi. This Nobody was then captured by Organization XIII because of her power to alter memories. The Nobody’s name is Namine.

The Witch of Castle Oblivion

During her time inside Castle Oblivion, Namine is responsible for corrupting Sora’s memory and making him believe that she is Kairi. This forces Sora to advance further beyond the castle to save her. He is slowly manipulated by Marluxia, a member of Organization XIII planning a coup against their leader and the one who ordered Namine’s actions. Namine, scared of being locked in the castle forever, continued to alter Sora’s memories until he completely forgot about Kairi.

Realizing that what she is doing is wrong, she apologizes to Sora after his battle with Larxene. Sora forgives her but says that he is not happy about her actions. The Keyblade wielder then asks Namine if she can still alter his and the party’s memories, Namine says that she can, but Sora must first defeat Marluxia.

Marluxia, sensing that Namine has betrayed her, kidnaps her and uses her to prevent Axel, another member who is tasked to stop Marluxia’s plans, from hurting him. Axel is still determined to attack Marluxia even when he is holding Kairi. However, he is stopped by Sora before he can even attack. The two then engage in battle, with Sora winning the fight while Marluxia escapes with Namine.

Sora then defeats Marluxia, freeing Namine from her torment. Namine then reveals the Memory Pods, devices that can help Sora’s party regain their lost memories. While they sleep inside the Memory Pods, Namine slowly restores their original memories. This process takes just under a year due to a dilemma which Riku and DiZ (Ansem the Wise’s disguise) deal with.

Meeting with Roxas

Before Namine can fully restore Sora’s memories, she needs Roxas, Sora’s Nobody, to come back to Sora’s body. Riku and DiZ were successful in capturing Roxas who recently deserted Organization XIII. They then placed Roxas inside a simulated Twilight Town where he can enjoy a “summer vacation” before reuniting with Sora.

However, Namine grows fond of Roxas, seeing herself in him as someone who is not meant to exist. She enters the simulated Twilight Town to meet Roxas and guide him in fighting Nobodies.

After meeting inside Roxas’ Dive into the Heart, Namine wants to tell him about his origins but is stopped by Riku. This encounter with Namine and Riku leads to Roxas meeting Kairi in a dream.

Namine finally reveals to Roxas his true identity the next day. She tells him that he is destined to reunite with Sora because he was not meant to exist. Roxas disregards this, Namine understanding his situation.

As Roxas accepts uniting with Sora, Namine tells him that he will not disappear, but be whole. DiZ then takes her away, saying that she and Roxas will meet again before disappearing.

Kairi’s Nobody

DiZ orders Riku to kill Namine. Riku refuses and instead takes her to Axel for protection. Axel and Namine form a bond, Namine instilling in Axel’s mind that even Nobodies can develop friendships.

Namine then helps Kairi and Pluto escape their cells when they are held inside The World That Never Was. Riku rescues all of them when they meet Saix.

Before Sora and Riku defeat Xemnas, Namine and Kairi have their final conversation along with Sora and Roxas. Namine and Roxas realize that as long as Sora and Kairi are together, they can be together as well.

Namine then finally unites with her human self, completing Kairi’s being.
