Recommended Leveling for Level 20-40

Octopath Traveler 2 - Roaring Sea Cave

While the Roaring Sea Cave has a Danger Level of 48, the area is ideal for leveling up fast during the early game. If your party’s average level is around 20, you can easily raise it to 40 in a short period of time simply by hunting the high-level monsters that appear here.

Up until your party reaches level 40, try to farm monsters in the Roaring Sea Cave instead of the Cait that has lower chances of appearing.

Before Farming Monsters in the Roaring Sea Cave (Average Party Level at 20)

Before heading to the Roaring Sea Cave, you need to make a few preparations since the monsters you will encounter are going to be 20 levels higher than most of your characters.

1. Capture the Throne Guardian.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Throne Guardian

The key to being able to farm enemies in the Roaring Sea Cave while being several levels lower than your enemies is to capture a powerful monster called a Throne Guardian with Ochette’s Capture Talent.

Once you have caught a Throne Guardian, you can have Ochette summon it to deal massive area-of-effect (AoE) damage to all enemies. Foes that are under the Break status will suffer as much as 9999 damage from the Throne Guardian’s attack.

With the Throne Guardian to aid you, you will be able to take down enemies in the Roaring Sea Cave despite the massive level discrepancy.

2. Steal Almighty Spirit Stones from Ice Element enemies.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ice Element

Before trying to capture a Throne Guardian, it is recommended to obtain Almighty Spirit Stones which you can use to reliably damage it.

You can steal the Almighty Spirit Stones from the Ice Element enemies that appear at the Abandoned Waterway (Danger Level 20) of the Brightland Region. The Abandoned Waterway is found to the left of the road sign leading to the Winterlands Region of the New Delsta plains.

Ice Elements are quite rare so you may need to spend some time walking around the dungeon to encounter them.

3. Buy Fire Spirit Stones (Large).

Octopath Traveler 2 - Night Market

You can also make the process of fighting Ice Element enemies by buying Fire Spirit Stones (Large). To get this item, head to the right of the Abandoned Waterway. Just before the cave is a black market that only spawns at night. Approach the shop to buy Fire Spirit Stone (Large).

Fire Spirit Stones (Large) are very effective against Ice Elements and can even lower their HP to critical with a single use of the item.

From Toto Haha Island Kemono Beach -Anchor-, take the small boat on the right side of the area and head to the west to find the Roaring Sea Cave (Danger Level 48).

How to Capture the Throne Guardian

Octopath Traveler 2 - Throne Guardian

The Throne Guardian’s weaknesses are Sword, Bow, Staff, and Dark. Alongside Ochette, try to have Partitio, Throne, and Temenos in the party. Be sure to hunt for the Throne Guardian at night to take advantage of the buffs and debuffs that Throne and Temenos can apply during the battle.

Begin the fight by exploiting the Throne Guardian’s weaknesses using different damage types. Attack it for about 7 times until you force the monster into the Break state.

Once the Throne Guardian is in Break, use an Almighty Spirit Stone twice to quickly lower its HP to critical. Finally, have Ochette use her Capture Talent to catch the monster.

How to Summon Throne Guardian

Octopath Traveler 2 - Throne Guardian Attack

Use Ochette’s Summon ability (usable only when at max BP).

After you have captured the Throne Guardian, you can summon it with Ochette’s “Summon” Ability when her BP is at maximum. Because of this, have Partitio use his Donate BP skill on Ochette. This will allow you to summon the Throne Guardian as early as the first turn. Bear in mind that you can only summon monsters once per battle.

Farming Enemies When the Party’s Level is Low

Note that your party is still likely to get wiped out by enemies who are several levels higher than you if you cannot fill Ochette’s BP in time to summon the Throne Guardian. Because of this, be sure to save inside the Roaring Sea Cave before you start farming the area. As with the fight against the Throne Guardian, try grinding experience by battling at night.

When a random battle at the Roaring Sea Cave occurs, watch if the enemy’s first attack misses. Then, have Partitio use Donate BP on Ochette to set her BP to max. From here, simply summon the Throne Guardian to take out the enemies.

If Ochette moves before anyone else, she is likely to not have enough BP yet to summmon the Throne Guardian. When this happens, have her and all characters (except Partitio) to defend. If any party members are knocked out, use Temenos to revive them.

Tips for Leveling in Demo Version

The demo version of Octopath Traveler 2 has a maximum allowable play time of 3 hours. Note that you can still play the demo well past the stated limit, though you will no longer be able to move to a different map onward. This means that you can level up indefinitely if you stay at location with good leveling spots when your 3 hours is up.

Try to spend the demo play time by having your party reach level 20. Then, head to the Roaring Sea Cave when your play time approaches the limit so you are stuck in the area to grind levels as much as you want afterwards.
