Lamia

Lamia is a demonic creature with a woman’s upper torso and a snake body for the lower torso.

According to Greek mythology, Lamia was a Libyan queen. And Zeus, smitten, decided to have children with her. However, this enraged his wife – Hera, queen of the gods. There are different accounts as to how Hera killed her children. Some say Hera did it herself. Others drove Lamia insane and made her eat her own children. Mad with grief, Lamia rushed out and continued killing other children. Thus, her own grief and insanity transformed her into a monster. However, Zeus took pity on her. He gave her the ability to remove her eyes because every time she would close them, she would see her dead children.
