Mara

In Buddhist’s mythology, Mara is known as the Evil One. He is the tempter that causes people to regard the mundane and negative as attractive. Mara personifies unwholesome impulses, unskillfulness, and the death of the spiritual life.

This demon lord sits atop the Sixth Heaven of the Desire Realm that includes the mortal world. Mara deceives those who travel through Samsara by using promises of happiness in the Desire Realms. The faithful see this as the ultimate obstacle to any who desire to achieve enlightenment into nirvana and sunyata.
