Fast Leveling Guide
In Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5), Nahobino (protagonist) and demon allies will gain increased stats and learn new skills when they level-up, allowing you to take on tougher enemies and bosses without much trouble throughout the game’s main story.
Tips for Farming EXP
Do subquests.
Clearing side quests allows you to obtain a good amount of EXP and useful items when you want to grind levels during the main story. Some sub quests also allow you to engage demons that are significantly tougher than ones found in the same area so try to do as many of them as you can.
Farm Ara Mitama (Red) and Kushi Mitama (Silver)
Ara Mitama and Kushi Mitama are rare spirits that occasionally spawn in the various locations of the Netherworld. These can be defeated to earn a hefty amount of EXP, allowing you to level up fast.
Mitama | Details | Weakness | Spawn Locations |
---|---|---|---|
Ara Mitama (Red) | Drops massive amounts of experience upon defeat. | Random | Random |
Kushi Mitama (Silver) | Drops massive amounts of experience upon defeat. | Random | Random |
Note that Mitama can sense danger quickly and will run away if you approach them. Because of this, try to ambush them from behind to engage them in battle.
Purchase the Mitama Dance of EXP (2.99 USD)
You can choose to purchase the Mitama Dance of EXP DLC to increase the spawn rate of Ara Mitama and Kusi Mitama in the game. This feature can be turned on and off in the options menu after downloading the add-on.
Clear Abscesses.
Abscesses are demon nests that spawn powerful enemies which yield a good amount of EXP after clearing them. Destroying Abscesses also clears the path to new areas that house items, NPCs, and even recruitable demons in the game.
Look for Demon Statues.
Demon Statues are petrified demons which are said to be remnants of a past war. Touching them will increase the level of all demon allies by 1. Note that Demon Statues do not affect Nahobino and will not allow him to level up using this method.
It appears that old demons can only level up so far in the traditional sense. My mananaggal seems to need 10x more experience to level then my newly acquired demons. Something seems off about it.
Ah yes, pay to win in a singleplayer game.
Also maybe should mention that aside from EXP (which scale down after a couple levels), Mitamas also drop Gospels. Arguably the best items in the game.
