The World of Shadows is a mysterious location in Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5) that allows you to fuse demons with the aid of the realm’s lord Sophia. The area functions similarly to the Cathedral of Shadows that appear in past games in the series.

How to Access the World of Shadows

Shin Megami Tensei V - World of Shadows

You can travel to the World of Shadows via a leyline fount found early in the game. After being introduced to Sophia, you will be able to perform Demon Fusions, manage Demon Essences or purchase Miracles from her using Glory you have accumulated in the game.

World of Shadows Services

Sophia mainly offers two types of services when you visit the World of Shadows. While not yet confirmed in official sources, it is expected that more actions can be performed in the area by progressing through the main story.

Demon Fusion

You can request Sophia’s services to fuse demons at the World of Shadows. Note that demon fusion costs money which varies depending on the types of demons you will use as “materials” for merging them.

Essence Fusion (Apotheosis)

Demon essences can also be managed and fused in the World of Shadows, allowing you to transfer skills and affinities of demons to the main character (Nahobino) or to other demon allies through Essence Fusion. This effectively lets you “customize” any characters you have in your party, granting them advantages against certain enemies in the game.

Purchasing Miracles (Apotheosis)

You can also buy Miracles from Sophia by paying her a special type of currency called Glory. This resource is obtained when exploring the field, opening and interacting with Treasure Chests and Amalgams, or finding Miman’s hiding in Da’at.

All Miracle Skills

Miracles provide a number of useful passive effects such as increasing the main character’s skill potential, allowing allies to recover all of their HP and MP upon leveling up, or fills up a significant portion of the party’s Magatsuhi gauge when ambushing enemies. Because of these benefits, it is recommended to take time farming Glory as you progress through the game.
