Hayataro in Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5)
In Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5), Hayataro is a demon summoned by Yuzuru Atsuta via the Demon Summoning Program and becomes his partner. Japanese folklore describes Hayataro as a courageous wild mountain dog who lived in Kozen-ji temple and was raised by a priest. Hayataro received his name which means “fast and brave” after he saved a child living in the village from a wild animal.
Hayataro would then become known for defeating several yokai who intended to kill children as human sacrifices. Despite annihilating the yokai, Hayataro suffered grave injuries and died after returning home to the priest. To honor Hayataro’s bravery, a grave was erected next to Kozen-ji temple’s main hall.
