Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Main Story Walkthrough

Hard Mode can only be selected at the beginning of the game.

It is only possible to select Hard Mode when beginning a new playthrough. Once you start the game on this setting, you will be able to lower it at any point during the main story if you find yourself struggling against enemies.

Changing the difficulty setting after starting on Hard Mode locks you out of it permanently.

Be warned that once you switch to a different difficulty mode after starting on Hard Mode, you will be locked out of the difficulty setting for the duration of your playthrough.

Story Alignment Routes (Canon of Vengeance and Canon of Creation)

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance adds two new endings under the new Canon of Vengeance ending route type which can only be accessed by choosing to “take the girl’s hand” (left option) at the start of the game. “Refuse to take the girl’s hand” (right option), meanwhile, locks you into any of the original 4 Canon of Creation endings from the base version of the game.

Note that beginning the Canon of Vengeance story route locks you out of getting any of the original four (4) endings under the Canon of Creation route from the vanilla version of SMT 5 and vice versa.

Story Alignment (SMT 5: Vengeance Only)

Canon of Creation Ending Routes

As you play the main story of the game, all of the dialogue choices you’ve made will account for the ending and post-game content unlocked. Although you still have to make your final decision for 3 of the 4 Canon of Creation ending routes, the dialogue choices will influence the reception of the post-game quest givers when Nahobino enters the end game area dungeon.

If your alignment does not match the Canon of Creation ending you are going for, you have to pay 666,000 Macca to the quest giver in order to start and clear it. For example, if you choose to uphold God’s order but have little to no alignment with Abdiel and Ichiro Dazai, you must shell out the fee to pursue the subquest.

Canon of Vengeance Ending Routes

Unlike the Canon of Creation ending routes (with the exception of the True Neutral ending), you cannot pay a Macca to get either the Canon of Vengeance Law or Chaos ending at the game’s final area if your alignment does not coincide with the particular ending you want.

If you are aiming for either the Canon of Vengeance Law or Chaos endings, be sure to choose the correct dialogue responses during the main story to increase your alignment with a specific ending.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Post-Game Unlockables

The ending route that you get will influence the post-game quests and final bosses he will face. If you want to try another ending route, you have to start the game through New Game Plus (NG+).
