Beat Satan (superboss) on Canon of Vengeance story route.
To unlock Godborn difficulty in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (SMT 5: Vengeance), you must defeat Satan (new superboss) in Shinjuku during the subquest The Great Adversary. Below are the steps to unlock the side quest during the game’s main story.

| 1 | Beat the game on Canon of Creation story route (do not take the girl’s hand) and unlock the True Neutral ending (Create a World for Humanity Alone). |

| 2 | Create a cleared game save file and being a new playthrough. |
| 3 | This time, choose to take the girl’s hand to begin the Canon of Vengeance playthrough. |
| 4 | Reach the Empyrean and head to Shinjuku and clear The Serpent King subquest. |
| 5 | After clearing the subquest, The Great Adversary subquest will be unlocked. |
Once you have completed The Great Adversary subquest, proceed with the main story until you are able to beat the game and watch the ending. Afterwards, Godborn difficulty will become selectable when you start a new playthrough.

Godborn Difficulty Mode Features and Gameplay Changes
Level cap raised to 150 (player and enemies).
Beginning a new playthrough on Godborn mode raises the maximum level for both the player and various enemies encountered to 150. This means that regular demons and bosses you fight throughout the game will have increased attack power and defense, making it much harder to clear than other game modes.

Incense items are added to Gustave’s shop (Cadaver’s Hollow).
You will also be able to purchase Incense from Gustave at Cadaver’s Hollow on Godborn difficulty. While various Incenses Gustave sells cost a hefty price, they are now more easily obtainable if you have farmed a considerable amount of Macca in the game.

Beating Lucifer on Godborn mode unlocks him for fusion at the World of Shadows.
