Devil May Cry 5 Tips for Beginners
Turn on Automatic Assist
Turning on the Automatic Assist function allows you to perform combos by simply pressing the attack buttons repeatedly. This is convenient for beginners who do not want to get into the techniques of combos manually just yet. Do note, however, that Automatic Assist does not help you evade enemy attacks. Though, when playing as Nero, Automatic Assist does charge the Exceed gauge.
Recommended control settings for beginners
Action | Button Assignment |
---|---|
Ranged Attack | □ → L1 |
Breakaway | L1 → R2 |
Recommended Devil Breaker
Gerbera
The Devil Breaker Gerbera sends out a shockwave that allows you to easily evade enemy attacks, especially those of bosses. Gerbera does particularly well in avoiding the attacks of Goliath, who is encountered very early on in the game.
Finding Your Way When Lost
If you find yourself lost, press L3. This will point the camera in the direction of your next objective.
Know the unique abilities and attacks of your character
Nero, Dante, and V have very different abilities and mechanics that you will need to be familiar with to be effective in combat. Nero, for example, relies heavily on performing combos and attacks with his Devil Breakers and Exceed system.
Learn and upgrade Abilities and Attacks
Abilities and attacks can be learned and leveled by using Red Orbs in Nico’s workshop. Call Nico from the Phone Booth to access these features during a mission.
