Yen Sid’s History
Origin
Yen Sid is a former Keyblade Master that once taught Mickey Mouse the art of Keyblade and magic. He is currently retired in the Mysterious Tower, keeping a close eye on the balance between light and darkness. He was also alongside Eraqus and Xehanort.
Training Mickey Mouse
In Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Yen Sid took the role of master to Mickey Mouse. Before the Mark of Master exam, he told Mickey that a tragedy may come soon. He then contacted his fellow former Keyblade Master about the looming threat of the Unversed.
Yen Sid was also responsible for locating Mickey to his tower to warn him about Eraqus’ murder and that it was done by Terra and Master Xehanort.
After the defeat of Vanitas, Mickey returns to Yen Sid to return his star shard and keyblade, thinking that he had failed his mark of the mastery exam. Yen Sid disagrees and gives back the Keyblade, stating that Mickey has actually passed the exam.
Training Sora and the Gang
In Kingdom Hearts 2, Yen Sid tutored the main protagonist, Sora, on his quest. He mentions the pending darkness that awaits for Sora and his friends in the future. After that, he sends Sora, Goofy, and Donald Duck to the Hollow Bastion using the Gummi Ship that he has been safekeeping.
The Return of Xehanort
In Kingdom Hearts coded, Yen Sid met with Mickey Mouse to discuss the search for Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. He then confessed to Mickey Mouse that Xehanort has returned along with “Master Xehanort.”
Yen Sid then ordered Mickey to summon Sora and Riku and take the Mark of Mastery exam since they need more Keyblade masters to defeat Xehanort.
Dream Drop Distance
In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Yen Sid performs the Mark of Mastery Exam on Sora and Riku, putting them in a state of deep sleep. However, what he doesn’t know is that Young Xehanort has devised a plan to trap Sora and Riku.
Mickey and the rest of the company were forced to save both of them and go to The World That Never Was. After saving both Sora and Riku, Yen Sid delivered an apology and declares Riku as the only one who passed the test, as Sora failed to resist the darkness and succumbed to Young Xehanort.
With the recent events, Yen Sid realizes that Master Xehanort plans to recreate the X-blade by fighting the seven princesses of heart. He then gathers seven keyblade wielders to protect the princesses.
A Secret Has Been Revealed
In his latest appearance in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep -a fragmentary passage-, Yen Sid is the one who informs Kairi, Mickey, and Riku of their mission to rescue Ventus, Aqua, and Terra. He and Mickey also tell Riku and Kairi of the fate of Aqua in the realm of darkness.
He grants Riku and Mickey new garments to protect them from the darkness while Kairi is assigned to train with Lea on how to handle a Keyblade.
After everything, he assigns Sora to the Olympus Coliseum to train with Hercules as he had lost his abilities once again.
