How to parachute in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), including parachuting mechanics, recommended landing spots, and other tips and tricks.

Parachuting Strategy Guide

Before Jumping off the Plane

Before you even decide to drop-off from the door of the plane, it’s generally a good idea to plan where you want to land. If you’re playing with friends, you can place a marker where you intend to start on the map so it’s much easier to regroup and band together early on.

Another tip to remember is to go into first-person view mode while still on the plane. This way, you can check for any players who are dropping off at your plane’s current flight path, and either instigate or avoid an encounter.

If you’re not quite familiar with the best locations to land on the map, you might want to check out our Map Guide, which covers the recommended places to drop off, especially if you’re new to the game.

Getting on the Ground as Fast as Possible

If you’re planning to get on the ground as soon as possible, point your camera directly towards the ground as soon as you jump off (with the F key). Then, press and hold W until you reach the maximum free fall speed of 230km/h. Your parachute will eventually be deployed, so steer your way to the ground. To even further shorten your flight, you can deploy your parachute manually (just before it automatically does this). This is the quickest way to land on the map if you want to get ahead of everyone else.

As a last tip, try to land on the roof of buildings. The logic here lies in that a higher elevation will immediately get you on stable “ground” (allowing you to move slightly earlier than if you would if you had landed on the actual ground itself), in addition to providing you the advantage of having a better view of your starting point.

Covering as much distance as you can while parachuting

To glide through the furthest distance while still in the air, deploy your parachute as soon as you jump off, then set your camera almost horizontally. This also means that it will take you the slowest possible time to reach the ground, making you an easy target for other players to aim at you while you are still airborne (it is possible to be killed without having even touched the ground).

Now, while airborne (and the camera set horizontally), you can press W to increase your travel distance, then follow it by pressing S to reduce the rate at which you are descending, then repeating the process as you descend to the ground. This allows you to “swim” (or rather, move in a rocking motion) in the air to cover the most distance while parachuting.

Keep in mind that parachuting to cover a great distance is recommended for dropping into areas that are not populated, to avoid being shot while still in the air.

These are just some of the mechanics not easily noticeable, especially by new players in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
