Reddit on  PUBG Updates

Recently we talked about Bluehole’s announcement that they were going to change the scheduled patch rollouts. This announcement said that the developers were changing the patch and update schedule in order to improve their workflow as well as to “set realistic expectations for players.” This meant that patches were going to be released not according to a fixed schedule, but rather for necessity.

A recent reddit post by /u/SirKrohan revealed a lot more information on the next patches and what they will fix. The original poster said that “Bluehole has become complacent. No notice given for any work in progress or what the next update will involve. This isn’t okay.”

PUBG’s Esports Program manager, going by the handle /u/am1rtv replied to /u/SirKrohan’s post, sharing the things Bluehole are working on.

Things in Progress

Here are the things /u/am1rtv mentioned in reply to the original post. These are the things in progress (emphasis mine)

Grenade Overhaul

  • Reworking the entire system to enable more responsiveness
  • A more accurate draw of where the grenade will land
  • More versatility with the grenades in terms of how far they can be thrown, as the new system will take into account (the) velocity of the person moving and the motion that the player is making.

Other things in Progress

  • Removing the crouch-jump bug
  • Removing certain weapons (tommy gun) from crates and reworking them to fit the world better
  • UI Improvements
  • Optimization and clientside performance increase
  • Vaulting
  • New Map

Ballistics Update for Weapons

  • Includes better weapon physics
  • Improved bullet travel
  • Improved bullet Drop
  • Bullet penetration (water, wood, different textures etc)

Various other server side optimizations, client side consistency optimizations [smokes], etc etc

According to the user there are many other things that he could not comment on at that moment.

Implications

  • Overhauling grenades would make it easier to score kills with ‘nades from a far. I think the accuracy fix will cause a lot of grenade kills if you manage to master it.
  • Placing the tommy gun in the game world would make for a fun and utterly devastating experience. It wasn’t nicknamed Chicago Typewriter for nothing–its fast firing rate will be a great advantage out there in the field. However it makes me wonder where exactly in the game world (an eastern European island, mind you) will a tommy gun be found?
  • I said this somewhere else, but vaulting will be a really great addition to PUBG, and will amp up the challenge and exploration.
  • I think it’s interesting that they also added bullet penetration as well. This means that we’ll be able to fire through objects to hit our enemies, possibly landing hits without them even seeing us.
