This page contains a guide on the differences between first-person and third-person view in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), including advantages, disadvantages, recommended strategies, tips and tricks and mechanics.
First-Person vs Third-Person View
First-Person View Mode
First person point of view allows you to immerse with your character as you go along and play a battle royale for survival against the other ninety-nine players equipped with the same hunger for supremacy as you. But what are the actual benefits of first person besides indulging in the gameplay and the action?
Advantages
- Improved accuracy – although you lack vision compared to third person, that is compensated with the increased accuracy you get from having to view your surroundings and aim your gun from a first person perspective.
- Immersion in game allowing for heightened reactions – your senses will be heightened as you are more likely to be aware of your surroundings as you have limited vision. You will most likely cope with this by being more careful with the area your trekking making you more aware of your surroundings.
Disadvantages
- Limited vision – compared to the third person perspective, your vision is very limited. You will not notice enemies coming in from your blind spots as well. You will have to meticulously inspect every terrain you walk to as enemies might just always be hiding around the corner.
Third-Person View Mode
Third person allows you to see your whole character in all his glory so you can meticulously inspect every element of your gear without worrying much about getting back-stabbed since you’d be able to see an incoming player coming at you. So what would the third person point of view provide you with?
Advantages
- No blind spots – compared to first person POV, blind spots are absent in third person. This is because you can see your whole character and would notice enemies approaching from your back or sides that would usually be blind spots for a first person.
- Gives vision that are not possible for first person – first person only allows you to see what’s in front of you. But third person allows you to see what’s behind the object in front of you. This provides you with enough information on what your next course of actions will be.
Disadvantages
- Harder to aim – although third person gives you a lot of information in terms of vision, it does however give you trouble with aiming. As you view your character from a third person perspective, shooting from that perspective also proves to be quite troublesome. Your aim will be adjusted to compensate of having to view from above your character so it would be very hard for you to view and aim with two opposing point of views from both your character and your own crosshairs.
- Game reflexes are slower – as you are not immersed compared to the first person, you’ll be having trouble with your reflexes. It would just feel like you are just controlling a character so although you have extra vision compared to first person, this will also lower your guard down. Since usually you are aware of the surrounding area, you will more likely not worry much about any incoming attacks.
Conclusion
Although third person grants a lot of vision, your accuracy and game immersion will suffer for compensation and vice versa. But it all comes down to the player’s preference whether he would like to achieve better vision or want game immersion. Each has its perks and benefits and whether it will have a significant on your gameplay, will rely entirely on you.
