Mini-14: what we know so far
Recently we talked about how PUBG isn’t doing scheduled updates. Apparently this doesn’t mean that they won’t be updating the game sporadically. Just a few days ago we received news from reddit that the game developers were planing on delivering tons of new updates for a better player experience. These updates included grenade overhauls, the ability to fire through water, and other small improvements in terms of UI, et cetera.
Recently, the official PUBG twitter account posted a tweet regarding a new weapon: the Mini-14. Here’s the tweet:
New @PUBATTLEGROUNDS weapon alert!
After next week’s update, Mini-14 will be available all over the island of Erangel. #ThisIsBattleRoyale pic.twitter.com/ujjcyxYiLo

It seems that we’ll have the Mini-14 sooner than we thought, and that the weapon will be found all over the island of Erangel. Could this mean that the Mini-14 is going to be a mediocre rifle, given that it’s just that common? It could be a decent mid-game rifle, but we might never know.
I think we can all try to speculate re: the class of this gun, allowing us to anticipate how it will be used in the battlefield.
From the wikipedia article, the Ruger Mini-14 is a 5.56mm semi-automatic rifle. It has some variants: the Ranch Rifle, with a scope base on the receiver, and the Mini Thirty, chambered for 7.62x39mm; and the AC-556, a select-fire assault rifle.
The base weapon (simply the Mini-14) is just a semi-automatic rifle. However, AC-556, its variant, can be switched to full auto. This means that we might have an automatic firearm in our hands, a new assault rifle to carry around.
However, given its look, feel, and base semi-auto, it might just be a designated marksman rifle, or a sniper rifle at best. In that case, perhaps with the (natural) 5.56mm capacity, you might not want to use this with an M416, SCAR, or M16A4.
