Attacks
1) Key Blade Throw
Data Xion quickly hurls her Key Blade at Sora. When hit, Sora takes a bit of damage.
2) Continuous Swing
Data Xion charges and performs a three swing combo with the Key Blade.
3) Aerial Combo
Data Xion bounces upward and performs a downward Key Blade combo. Unlike the previous attack, this one ends with a downward thrust that summons a pink energy beam.
4) Two Light Pillars
Data Xion orders light pillars to go after Sora. The attack causes a pair of light pillars to appear and hit Sora twice before exiting the field.
5) Four Light Pillars
Data Xion shouts and then unleashes a four-pillar ring of light. The attack produces a shockwave and repeats for two more times before it vanishes.
6) Multiple Light Pillars
Data Xion tumbles back and quickly casts a line of pillars. This attack repeats one more time on the opposite side.
Strategy
1) Anticipate the throws
Data Xion tends to fling the key blade in between her strikes which leaves her vulnerable to attacks. Wait for her and then close in with a Risk Dodge.
2) Avoid the light pillars
At first glance, Data Xion might not appear a threat, however she becomes more tough to handle much later. Apart from wielding the key blade, she can also summon homing pillars of light. Taking damage from a few of them doesn’t do much, but if you get trapped in successive strikes, you’ll suffer a great deal of damage. That being said, you need to anticipate the incoming pillar and use Dodge Roll to avoid them. If it starts to get out of control, don’t be afraid to use form change to heal yourself. With the ultimate form you can unlock other guard abilities like Blade Barrier to protect against some of her projectiles.
3) Watch out for the yellow aura
When Data Xion starts to glow yellow, her pattern of attacks becomes far less predictable. If this happens, pay close attention to the type of projectile she casts. Among her attacks, many of them can be blocked with a guard ability. For instance, you can use that against the simple light aura, the light pillar that travels to the back, or when she performs a combo and finishes off with a light pillar.
Keep in mind that not all of her attacks that involve summoning pillars can be countered with guard. Some of her attacks need to be avoided using Dodge Roll. For example, you can’t use a guard ability to withstand the three large light pillars.
Order | Attack | Counterplay |
---|---|---|
1 | Light Pillar | Guard |
2 | Light Pillar moving backwards. The aftermath also deals damage. | Guard |
3 | Light Pillar | Interrupt with Counter |
4 | Continuous Swing and finishes with Light Pillar | Guard |
5 | Three giant light pillars | Evasion |
4) Pattern changes
When Data Xion is down to a few health bars left, she pulls off some mix-ups by combining her melee and ranged attacks. Keep dodging her light pillars and then trace the boss’ movements. Use either a guard or evasion ability as an adjustment.
5) Make Use of Rage Form
Rage form allows Sora to get his health back to full. This will help Sora recover HP while unleashing attacks to Data Xion.
